It wasfine.

“We can see about going to a different hotel.” Tabitha shrugged across the room.

“It’s fine. This is where the others are and the extra security they have for the event itself. I feel good about us being here.”

“Okay.” She licked her lips. “If I don’t hear back from the airline, we’re going to have to run a quick errand. Basic stuff like my contacts, vitamins, makeup, and electronics were all in my carry on. I still need clothes other than the ones I’m wearing. The agency has my costumes, dress, and your suit for the premiere tomorrow.”

He nodded.

“It’s not like we haven’t shared a bed before.” She laughed. “I mean, we were like ten, but whatever.”

Archie smiled. When they were younger, and the moms took trips, they always asked to stay the weekend together. That was before the awkward teen years when their parents didn’t think it was a good idea. Not that it kept them from sneaking into each other’s houses. They were best friends and inseparable during that time of their life.

Just friends.

“How about food?” She set her carryon bag on the desk.

“I could eat.” He put his bag next to his suitcase.

“We can grab dinner. If we don’t hear back from the airport by the time we’re done, then we can go shopping. I just need a few things.”

It would be fine.

An hour later, they were sitting across from one another in a dark booth at a small burger joint. It wasn’t anything fancy, and he was grateful for it. Everything about Tabitha now made it seemed like she was in another league. He always thought she was too good for him, but this was next level. When she suggested burgers, it surprised him.

Maybe she hadn’t changed as much as he thought.

Archie did his best to hide the grin when she ordered a milkshake with her burger, just like him. Just like they used to when they met up after school sometimes. It was a lifetime ago, but looking at her, it was almost as if no time had passed at all.

“What?” She caught him watching as she passed the menu to the waiter.

He shook his head. “Strawberry milkshake? Really? You know chocolate is always better.”

Tabitha laughed. “I disagree. Strawberries are superior.”

“Chocolate.”

She shook her head. “We haven’t even been here before, their milkshakes could be shit.”

Archie laughed at that. Considering they had a few signs on the walls saying their milkshakes were award-winning, he doubted it.

“I’m not ready to talk about it yet, but I am glad you’re here.” She played with the napkin under her water. Her eyes flicked up to meet him. “When they suggested I get a bodyguard, I knew it was needed, even though I didn’t want to believe it at the same time.” She sighed. “I’m glad it was you.”

He smiled. “Me too.”

“I missed you.” She whispered.

“Same.” He swallowed.

“Here we go.” The waiter set their shakes down. “Burgers should be out in a few more minutes.” He turned and left them.

“Moment of truth.” His voice grew serious as they stared at one another before trying their milkshakes.

It was better than he expected. Tabitha moaned across the table before declaring how delicious it was. It was the moan that had him growing hard. She licked her lips, and he did his best to discreetly adjust himself as her eyes remained on her drink.

“Want to try?” She started to push her drink across the table. “I think you might agree that the strawberry is better.”

He laughed as he pushed his chocolate shake closer to her. He hesitated as his lips pressed against the straw she’d just had on her own. That alone made her shake a thousand times better than his.
