Luke was one of the few she interacted with regularly. They had some of the same online friends and had worked with the same brands, just never at the same time. Until now.

“Archie who?” Max muttered under his breath next to her.

She ignored the comment. Luke and her were just friends. They got flirty online while in character, but it was always an act. He was good looking, but she didn’t want to even think about getting into another relationship. She had enough going on.

“I have an idea…” Eric entered the kitchen with a handful of wigs.

They took turns sharing wigs and spinning as the zoomed in lens captured split seconds of their faces. It was the start of many videos that were made before they finally settled in for dinner as the brand posted the official announcement online.

They laughed around the table as they all shared and spread the news. It was going to be a fun weekend. It was going to be just the thing to take her mind off of both her ex and Archie.

CHAPTER28

ARCHIE

Sitting in front of a dozen screens and surrounded by the men he trusted with his life, had him realizing this was what had been missing. It was hard enough not being in the air. He didn’t realize he’d miss it so much.

He thought he could capture Tabitha’s ex by himself, but he needed help. Once they got through this weekend first. He wouldn’t admit to her that it was a good thing they were here.

They might be able to draw out Ryan. One of the guards, Matt, had been watching the live footage from the man’s personal security system since they arrived. Matt had joined the security agency at the start just like Archie. He was someone he trusted to pick up on something he never did. They just had to wait and see what happened.

Every now and then, his eyes would flicker to a screen and find her talking and working with others. She was clearly in her element. It was when she got too close to one of the guys he could tell liked her that he had an issue with. He shouldn’t; he pushed her away.

He thought it would be easier to act like they weren’t friends when they were both busy. Clearly, that was working for her. She was wrapped up in her protective little work bubble and he was forced to watch her slip away all over again.

He knew it was for the best.

“How’s it been going?” Tyler questioned from behind him.

He peeked over his shoulder. “Which part?”

“The past week. You never said where you were, but I can take a guess.” The man smirked.

It’s possible that he would guess correctly. Archie told him about the club a while back when he was trying to decide what he wanted to do. He didn’t remember bringing Tabitha up to him though. That was a separate conversation. He knew he should tell him some things, just not all of it.

“Up until recently, I hadn’t seen her in years.” Archie cleared his throat. “Our moms are best friends and we grew up together. Families are super close, always doing everything together. After high school, we sort of went separate ways. She went to college then got married; you know my story.”

“So nothing ever happened between the two of you?” Matt smirked.

“We were always just friends, best friends. We just grew apart. Life happens.”

“Uh huh.” Matt shook his head and went back to looking at the laptop.

“The way you reacted when you saw the email, I thought there might have been more there.” Tyler spoke up.

“We got a request for another airshow,” Aaron interrupted.

“Fuck yeah! Let’s do it.” Matt nodded before turning his back to Archie.

“Yeah, I’m down once we get through this.” His attention needed to remain on Tabitha for now.

“Tabitha?” Matt smirked.

Archie shook his head. “I’m keeping things professional.” Now. Not that his friends or boss needed to know that. It was in the past.

“Alright.” Tyler stepped closer. “Looks like she might have something going with that other guy anyway.”

Archie’s head snapped up to look at the screen and saw the pair of them getting closer. “Good for her.” He swallowed, then turned to look at another screen. Any other screen.
