It didn’t mean anything. He was asleep and wasn’t aware of what he was doing. It was too easy to lay her head back down and snuggle more into him.

She shouldn’t have done it.

There was just something about Archie Stryker. She didn’t want to think; she wanted to feel.

CHAPTER32

ARCHIE

This was torture. Seeing her laughing as she held hands with her date and they skated around the rink. He sat back and watched. It was what he was being paid to do. It could’ve been him, but he screwed it up again. He pushed her away and right into the arms of someone else.

He was an idiot.

Archie wanted to say something. He’d been tempted to last night when he woke up and she was snuggling deeper into his side. They’d fallen asleep watching the movie and, like always, they gravitated closer.

They kept passing one another for the first part of the day. She was leaving the gym when he entered. She just smiled at him. Then when he was freshly showered and wandered into the kitchen and found her dancing around at the stove making breakfast. She turned and smiled. He could’ve fucking said something.

Done something.

But he just stood there.

Like an idiot.

The selfish part of him wanted to interrupt her date, throw her over his shoulder, and leave. He wanted her. He just had trouble telling her. This was fucking stupid. He was too late.

Again.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket as soon as he’d made the decision. Someone else needed to be her bodyguard. He couldn’t do it any longer. He couldn’t watch her be happy with someone else. Not when he wanted to be the one to make her happy.

Archie:I need someone else to take over this job.

Tyler: What happened?

Archie: Nothing. I just can’t be around her.

Tyler: Matt can do it. Aaron is out on a job right now.

Archie: Great. When will he be here?

Tyler: I’ll talk with him and see. Probably tomorrow evening at the earliest.

Archie: Great

His eyes snappedup to see them rolling out of the rink and over to the concession stand. He stood and moved a little closer, keeping his back to the wall so he had eyes on them and the doors. Her ridiculous laugh could be heard across the room. They’d moved to a little round table and were sharing a tray of nachos.

Archie:I’m watching her on a date right now.

James: Why?

Archie: It’s my job as her bodyguard to follow her around.

James: What happened?

Archie: I pushed her away.

James: You’re such an idiot. You both are. Why are y’all fighting this?

Archie: We’re not right for each other.
