“Can you hear me?” Matt’s voice came over the ear piece.

“Yeah.” Aaron responded first.

“Everyone in position?” Tyler questioned.

“I’m getting there.” He grumbled as he straightened his tie. It’d been a while since he had to put on a suit. Since the last time he was at an event with Tabitha, come to think of it.

Matt would already be near Tabitha. He’d be close enough to get to her if needed, but far enough away so she could mingle. Archie knew he’d been her bodyguard for the past several months, longer than he had been.

Tyler would be on the mezzanine, blending in with the rest of the general security for the event. Most guests had personal security, which meant this place would be packed more than any other event they’d been at in a long time.

When Tabitha let them know she was invited, Archie didn’t want her to attend. Not that it was his decision. The other outvoted him anyway, because Ryan would be there. It was an event where entertainment and politics collided. On the surface, it was a charity event, and a good one. Underneath, a basement where private meetings were held.

Aaron would be stationed outside in a van marked for catering. He’d hacked into the security system and was keeping an eye out on all cameras. It helped having a tech geek on the team. The guy could remotely unlock any security door and let them know if someone was coming.

Archie would follow Ryan from a distance. The team knew he had a meeting in the basement during the event; they just needed to be patient. Aaron had picked up on the mention of the meeting two days ago. An event this size, they were already planning on all being there. They just had to come up with an initial plan, even though most of it would be winging it.

They didn’t know who Ryan was meeting, how difficult it would be to get into the basement, or what the meeting would be about. There were rumors of the meetings that went down at this event, but you had to know someone who knew someone to even find out about them. The chance of getting invited to these secret rendezvous were slim to none.

He rounded the corner and kept to the wall until he spotted the bastard.

“I’ve got eyes.” He smirked.

“Does Tabitha still have the restraining order in place?” Tyler asked.

“Yeah, why?” Aaron answered.

“I’m pretty sure they’re within one hundred yards of each other.” Tyler spoke.

“I thought we’d already taken that into account.” Archie argued.

“She doesn’t know he’s here. We didn’t tell her,” said Matt.

Fuck! “Why not? If she sees him, damn it!” Archie muttered. “She should’ve been clued in on this part.”

“He’ll be making his way to the basement soon. Arch, just stay on him.” Tyler’s voice came across annoyed.

“If she sees him, how do we know she won’t make a scene?” Aaron questioned.

“I’d hope she would. I don’t like them being in the same room as each other.” Archie huffed as he stepped further down the wall.

He should’ve been keeping his focus on Ryan. He couldn’t help letting his eyes float across the room periodically until he found her.

There.

Fuck, she looked beautiful. Her hair was pinned to the side and loosely curled. She was smiling and laughing. Her arm was wrapped around Luke’s arm. Max and Eric were standing across from them and another guy he recognized from that weekend meetup they did months ago.

His eyes trailed down her black gown. It was on her like a second skin. Every slight turn of her body had something on it, catching the light. She fucking sparkled.

This was wrong all over again. Seeing her like this, on the arm of someone else. Mother fucker! His hands fisted at his sides. Why did he have to be such an idiot and push her away? Maybe he should’ve just stayed away.

He jerked his attention back to Ryan. The asswipe had a smirk on his face and was looking right at Tabitha. Hell no.

“He’s spotted her.” Archie whispered.

“I see it,” said Tyler.

“I’m on it.” Matt spoke.
