“Damn it, Tab!” He pulled her off of Ryan and into his arms. “Why did you do that?”

She felt his hand put pressure on her side. Her eyes slowly moved down, and she saw the blood creeping out from between his fingers.

“I’d do it again because I love…”

Darkness surrounded her as she felt everything go cold.

CHAPTER40

ARCHIE

Three Days Later

The door opened, and he slowly lifted his head to watch the nurse step into the room. She didn’t say a word as she moved to check something on one of the screens. Tabitha had been hooked up with wires since she was brought in days ago. She’d had to have emergency surgery to stop the bleeding.

He felt so helpless, just watching her and hoping she’d wake up.

“You should get some rest.” The nurse gave a soft smile.

“I’m not leaving her alone.” He shook his head.

“She won’t be.” Her mother, Carol, walked in. “A shower and real food will do you good. You know I’ll call if anything changes.”

Archie wanted to argue. He had zero desire to leave her side. He knew her mom probably wanted some time with her alone. He’d barely left since she was brought in. Doing his best to survive off the vending machine at the end of the halls. At some point, someone had dropped actual food off for him. He’d been too zoned out at the time. It was cold by the time he ate it.

He nodded. He looked down at Tabitha’s sleeping form and got angry all over again. Part of it was his fault. He was the reason she was here. If he hadn’t kept pushing her away, they’d have been together. He knew he wouldn’t have let her be alone in a place like that.

“I’ll be right back.” He pulled her hand up to his mouth and gave it a kiss before placing it back down next to her.

A few hours later, he was walking back through the hospital entrance. He’d showered, ate real food, and taken a power nap. They couldn’t get on to him now. He did his best. Now, all he wanted to do was be back at her side.

“How is she?” He turned to see James standing with his hands in his pocket. Half the club was in the waiting area with him.

“Stable. Her mom’s up there with her right now.” He tried to force a smile, but it couldn’t come.

James nodded. “She’ll get through this.”

Archie half chuckled. “She was always too good for this world.”

“Don’t talk like that.” Brian walked over.

He closed his eyes. “It’s my fault. I should’ve been faster.”

“Arch, we were all there. The only person who is at fault is now dead. Not that the bastard deserved to go fast,” said James.

Archie looked at his friend. “I’m going back up there.” He turned without another word.

All he wanted to do was be next to her again. The nurses didn’t say a word to him as he walked down the hall and back into her room.

She was only supposed to have one visitor at a time, but he wasn’t going to leave. He sure as hell wasn’t going to allow her mom to leave if she didn’t want to either. They simply sat in silence together for a few hours until the sky outside the window grew dark.

“I’ll be back in the morning.” Carol was already standing. “This reminds me of the time you were missing.” She closed her eyes briefly. “None of us knew what to do and it wasn’t like we could help. She stayed with your mom the entire time. I can’t believe I didn’t see it then.”

“What?”

“That you two love each other.”

He started to shake his head. “No, it’s not like that.”
