“He won’t be a problem anymore.” He placed a kiss on the inside of her wrist. “We’ll talk about it later. Right now.. Fuck!” He leaned forward and pressed another soft kiss to her lips. “I’m sorry I pushed you away.”

“Me too.” She smiled.

“I love you, but don’t you ever dive in front of a gun again. I don’t care if it’s pointed at me.”

Her insides warmed. “What did you just say?”

“I said don’t dive in front of a gun again.” He smirked.

“Before that.” Her eyes watered.

“I love you.”

“You love me?”

“Yeah, I do. You’re the fucking love of my life, Tabitha. I never should have pushed you away. I want to keep you forever if you’ll let me.”

“Really?”

“I love you and I’m done fighting this thing between us.”

“Because it’s epic.”

He laughed. “Yeah, epic and meant to last.”

“I love you.”

He leaned closer and kissed her. The machine beeped faster next to her and the next thing she knew was the door opening and laughter and claps. She looked over to see the nurses smiling.

“Did he pull a sleeping beauty?” One of the nurses walked closer. “How are you feeling?”

She smiled at her and then looked back at Archie. “Like my life is finally starting.”

CHAPTER42

ARCHIE

One Month Later

“Damn it,woman! I told you to stop lifting things and just rest.” He set the box labeled kitchen on the kitchen counter.

Tabitha raised a finger and pointed at him. “And I told you that I am not fragile! I was cleared to resume regular exercise a week ago.”

Archie knew. He was at the doctor’s office with her. She told him he didn’t need to be, but it was still too soon to go without seeing her for longer than an hour. She spent two more nights in the hospital before they released her. He immediately had them move in together in an apartment back home.

One week later, he was signing the papers to a house he knew she loved when they were little and surprised her with it. She couldn’t believe it when he told her it was theirs. He wanted to give her everything. They were able to start moving in two weeks later.

It was going to be perfect. He could work remotely for the security company. They weren’t in their hometown, just a short thirty-minute drive from the neighborhood they’d grown up in. It was close enough to see family without their moms walking over every day, which he knew they would do.

“I just don’t want you to get hurt, Tab.” He walked over to her.

“And I just want you.” She smiled.

“Tabitha.” He crossed his arms.

“You’re not the boss of me, Archie Stryker.” Her nose scrunched up.

“Just in the bedroom?” He smirked.
