“We’reopen? Do you work here, or are you a member?”

“I’m a sex coach here so I supervise sessions, guide participants, and see some on a regular basis to do classes with. I also do a few demonstrations of products I sell—toys and that sort of thing.” He was sure she was underselling herself. Her job sounded different from anything he’d ever heard of before, and he could only imagine the highs and lows a career like that could have.

She led them up the stairs to the front entrance, through another ornate iron gate, which swung open silently and through a heavy timber door. Once inside, they passed into a foyer area where a woman dressed in all black, topped with a black-and-gold vest, sat behind a desk. She smiled when she saw them. “Evening, welcome to The Exchange. You must be Cassie and Jake. I’m Brooke.”

“We are.” Cassie shook her hand, and Brooke held out a tablet to her. She did the same with Jake. Brooke explained the privacy requirements, access to the private website where membership documents would be available, and took copies of their photo ID.

When they’d finished, Adelaide instructed, “Right, come on through.” She pushed against a panel in the wall that Jake would never have guessed was a door. To their left was a grand staircase that curved up a level. Above it was a second matching staircase leading to the third floor. His earlier impression about the club looking like a mansion wasn’t far off—it was grand and incredibly classy. “There are four main areas in the building—one to each floor. Ground level is a bar and sitting area. This is where all the demonstrations and parties are held. We’ll come back here, so I’ll show you this level after we’ve seen the other areas. Below us is the basement pool, sauna, and steam rooms. One level above us is the colosseum—our amphitheatre for public play—the role playrooms and group area, and the level above that are our private rooms. Each of those is more like a hotel room with complete privacy.” They followed Adelaide down a level to the pool deck and through a glass gate that acted as a safety fence.

The pool was decorated like a Roman bath with a line of arches separating the pool area from the loungers placed alongside. Vines grew along the walls, and as they walked passed the loungers and moved to the refreshment stand, Jake could see panels of opaque glass above them—the pool would have natural lighting during the day. Ahead of them, a group of people gathered around a lounger, watching and cheering as moans echoed off the walls. Adelaide stopped walking at the cart, but what Jake thought was a simple bottled water stand turned out to be so much more. “We provide condoms and lube throughout the building in stations like this. We ask that you dispose of them in the rubbish bins provided.” She opened the cupboard door and pointed to the sterile bin. In the other side, towels were rolled up and stacked neatly. “The towels are for your use too, but again, please place the soiled ones in the hampers.”

A shout rent the air, and Jake turned, curious at the show being played out only a few metres away. “Feel free to check it out,” Adelaide encouraged. Cassie wandered over there, and Jake followed, standing behind her as they looked between heads to see a man on his back, cum over his belly with his legs held apart by a man buried inside him, and another kneeling to the side with his cock deep in the man’s throat. A few of the audience members had their cocks in hand and were jacking themselves in time to the wet slurping sucks and thrusting of hips. A woman was bent at the waist while a man pumped into her from behind. The crowd here was mostly men, but they’d seen a few women upstairs.

Jake licked his lips, and Cassie pressed her rear end against the erection he had no hope of hiding now. “Is this your scene?” he whispered.

“Honestly?” When he nodded, she winced. “I don’t know if I’d have sex here, but watching would be good, I guess.”

“Okay.”

They left the basement soon after and toured the other floors. Adelaide’s description was spot on. The third floor was simply a corridor with doors spaced regularly off each side. She showed them how to locate an available room, explained cleaning procedures and reserving rooms during the busy times. The spaces themselves were opulent, California king beds with white linens and a mountain of pillows. Leather chaise lounges, dark timber side tables, gleaming polished timber floors, and flowing white curtains finished the look in the bedrooms, and the bathrooms were stone and glass. Gorgeous, all of it. Some of his higher-end clients could have done with consulting their decorator.

“Let’s take a seat,” Adelaide invited, moving over and sitting cross-legged on one of the chaise lounges. She waited until he and Cassie sat down on the other one before she started speaking. “You mentioned at Robyn, Mike, and Ezio’s party that you were looking to join a swingers’ club. Have you had an open relationship in the past?”

“No, never open.” Cassie explained how the two of them got together and then met Phoenix.

Adelaide nodded. “And after you went your own ways, you haven’t been with anyone else?”

“No.” Jake shook his head. “I wasn’t ready, and Cassie didn’t push me.”

“How long ago was that?” She smiled, threading her fingers together on her lap.

“A few years ago.” Jake looked to Cassie and slid his hand into hers. “Three.”

“That’s a long time for the two of you to be exclusive. Was the decision to open up your relationship again one that you’ve spoken about for a long time?”

“Initially, yes. But not as much recently. It seems like we’ve been in a holding pattern for a while.”

“And what triggered you to act now?” She paused, then added, “Are you ready now when you haven’t been in the past?”

“I’m not sure this is for us.” Cassie went to stand, but Jake tugged her hand.

“Adelaide has a point. Maybe we need to talk more about it.”

Cassie blew out a breath and sank back down onto the seat. “Seeing the people downstairs was hot, but… I don’t know if that’s really me.” She tucked her hair behind her ear and looked around the room. “This is more my style, but I can’t imagine ever being without Jake. So, for me, adding someone else is a possibility, but I won’t swap partners for the night.”

“The good thing is that this club is whatever you make it. If you want to come here and hang out at the bar and never use the other facilities, never do anything apart from having a drink, that’s completely up to you. We have many members who simply enjoy the inclusivity and lack of judgement that comes in a space like this. It doesn’t matter how you identify, or if you want to participate in more, you’ll be accepted here.” Adelaide reached out and patted Cassie’s hand. “My concern is that you seem to be jumping into this in somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction.” Jake looked down, picking at an invisible thread on his pants. She was right. “Feel free to tell me I’m wrong here, but, Jake, your reaction to Levi teasing Connor wasn’t one of arousal or even that wanting to explore that side of you again. It looked like pain.”

He cleared his throat. “It was. It killed me watching them, knowing they have what I wanted to give to Cassie. I know she loves me as much as I love her, and we’re happy together, but I gave her a promise.”

“Jake—” Adelaide coaxed.

“Don’t do this as some misplaced duty to me to fulfil a promise we made years ago. I love you, but I won’t let you destroy what we’ve built. I’ve told you that you’re enough. Believe me, Jake. That’s what I need from you now. Not sex with some stranger.” Cassie’s words were determined. Frustration flashed in her eyes, and Jake smiled. Relief squeezed his throat, his words getting caught. Unshed tears stung his eyes and he nodded, his shoulders dropping. Jake huffed out a laugh, overwhelmed with the emotions swamping him.

“I believe you,” he whispered, his voice breaking on the last word.

Adelaide stood and smiled down at them. “Take all the time you need. I’ll wait for you down at the bar. When you’re ready, we can talk more about what you want.”

The door clicked closed, and Jake pulled Cassie into his lap, burying his face in her shoulder. “I’m sorry. I’ve screwed everything up.”
