Withdrawing my hand, I held her lust-filled gaze while sucking her juices from my fingers. Her lips parted with a soft gasp, and the smell of her desire drowned out all other scents from the club.

Not wanting to give her a chance to stop and think about being dominated, I spun her around to face the wall. Flipping the top button of my jeans open, I was reaching for my zipper when someone cleared his throat. I growled over my shoulder and bared my teeth at the bear shifter standing behind us, but he did not seem to care.

“Sorry to interrupt your little sex party, but I can’t find Kelly.”

“And?” I growled again, angry that he had the nerve to interrupt us.

“Wait,” Ivy slowly blinked as if she was awakening from a lust-induced haze and turned around. “Kelly’s missing? How?” She shook her head, probably to clear the fog, adjusted her dress and moved out from under my arm. “What happened?”

“She told me she needed to go to the bathroom but that was about fifteen minutes ago. I hate to interrupt, but could you check?” It clicked into place. The barely audible worry that laced his question meant this was the shifter that marked Kelly, Ivy’s friend.

“Yes, of course, Brian. Wait here,” she replied.

As Ivy headed for the bathroom, Brian cleared his throat again. “Sorry that I interrupted.”

I didn’t bother saying not to worry about it, or that it was okay. And even though I understood why Brian had asked Ivy for help, my wolf was pissed. I tightened my jaw to avoid being rude and gave a curt nod.

A few moments later, Ivy appeared with a concerned look and a creased brow. “She’s not there.”

“Where could she be?” Brian queried while scanning the crowd.

Ivy’s eyes had turned to determined silver stones. “I don’t know. We should split up and search the club. She has to be here somewhere.”

As everyone headed in different directions, I caught up with Ivy. “Where are you going?” I asked, matching her step for step.

“Kelly wouldn’t be dancing without Brian, so we can eliminate that. I doubt she would’ve headed to the bar alone, so I’m going to check the bathroom one more time in case I accidentally missed her. And then I’m going to check the nearby exits.”

“Do you think she would go outside?”

“Yeah. Sometimes Kelly hits an exit to cool off. She knows that the smokers will prop the door open with a rock. Hopefully, she just overheated and needed a breather.”

After Ivy checked the bathroom, she headed toward an exit sign with a slightly ajar door.

I had always seen humans standing outside in back alleys. If they only had a clue that actual predators lurked in the shadows.

Ivy’s friend is missing. We are headed toward the exit near the female restroom.

On my way,Devon linked.

Me too,Rage replied.

As Ivy burst through the double doors, I was unprepared for the scene before us.

The stench of rotten eggs and death, along with the smell of rotting trash from the nearby bin, clogged my nose. Red brick lined the narrowed alley, and in the center stood a red-headed and scrawny-looking vampire with his arms locked around Kelly. His back to her front. Red eyes met mine before drifting to Ivy’s as he slowly feasted on Kelly’s blood while his hands dipped between her legs. Vampires had the power to make their pray feel lustful as they drained the life from their bodies. But Kelly didn’t look as though she was enjoying it. After finding her mate, her body knew it was wrong, even if her mind had trouble keeping up.

Ivy vibrated with anger, and I felt an influx of magic fill the air, almost choking me. Devon and Rage burst through the doors but froze immediately. Their eyes shifted to mine. Typically, we would take down the vampire and leave the human as collateral damage, but not this time. Instead, I needed to take my cue from my mate.

“Stop!” Ivy shouted with that strange voice that echoed off concrete walls. Her hand shot forward, and a white light burst from her palm, dropping the vampire to his knees and then slumping over, unmoving. Kelly fell forward and crumpled into a heap on the unforgiving pavement. Brian burst through the doors as Ivy caught Kelly from hitting her head.

Did you feel that?Rage asked in disbelief and awe.

Yes, Devon replied.

Not trusting my voice, I barely nodded. It was the same power that left me momentarily frozen at the library.

Ivy brushed Kelly’s hair away from her face as tears streamed down her cheeks. She kept mumbling, “Please don’t let her die. Don’t take her from me,” as she gasped for breath in between sobs. Her hand covered the neck wound, trying to stop the bleeding.

Blood gushed between her fingers as Ivy chanted the wordpleaseover and over. I wanted to go to her, hold my mate as her friend silently slipped into the afterlife, but I was afraid to move. Brian snapped his phone shut and said, “Let me have her Ivy, I have to get her to a healer.”
