“What?” she asked, her eyes traveling across each of us.

“Nothing,” I said. “How do you like the food?”

“Oh, it’s great! Thanks.” She shoved a bite of eggs into her mouth. Those full luscious lips drew my eyes, and I could imagine slipping my cock between them. And then mounting her from behind while sinking my teeth into the fleshy part of her shoulder, claiming her as my mate.

Annoyed with myself, I looked away and tried to think of something else because Ivy wasn’t ready. Yet.

“One more thing, Ivy. Would you mind giving Trace a sample of your blood? Then, we might be able to trace your lineage.”

She hesitated, and I somehow knew she was debating with herself. “Umm, okay, I guess.”

“Thank you.”

When Ivy finished, I walked her to Trace’s office. He had gathered the supplies, then slipped the needle into the bend of her arm, taking two vials of blood. Trace wasn’t a doctor, but he had been taught to draw, then run her blood, and hopefully determine who Ivy belonged to. It would take several hours.

Afterward, Devon collected Ivy so they could begin her training.

I lowered into the chair in Trace’s office and rubbed a frustrated hand over my forehead.

“Alpha,” he asked, “are you alright?”

“Yes,” I sighed. Axel and Rage darkened the door before crowding into the small office. “What a mess.”

Axel nodded. “I still don’t understand what is going on.”

“Trace?” I nodded to him, giving him the go-ahead to explain what he had found out.

“Short version on my end. Ivy was raised off-grid in a secluded area by a puma named Caroline.”

Sighing, I finished, “She has never been in a pack, never been around other wolves, and has no clue about our ways.”

Understanding widened Axel’s eyes. “She didn’t understand that we could mind-link?”

“No,” I confirmed. “Ivy also knows that the alpha leads the pack, but that’s about the extent of her knowledge. She is my mate, but Caroline has drilled in the fact that no one would want her, and if anyone found out about her dual nature, she would be put to death.”

By the look on his face, Axel was relieving every encounter with Ivy through new eyes, a new perspective. “Oh shit.”

I would say that was an understatement.

Rage, who had been quiet during this entire process, finally spoke. “Ivy will be fine. She is strong even when she is afraid.”

I nodded in agreement. “In the meantime, I need to teach her what it means to be a wolf and live with a pack. Hugging, touching, all the things her wolf must crave but has been deprived of her entire life. To be accepted….” I shook my head and allowed myself one moment of sadness for the beautiful woman that would lead beside me one day.

“Luca,” Axel said with a pained expression. “You still need to be careful around her. She has not been taught pack loyalty, and right now, she is still a rogue who will act irrationally if threatened.”

“I know. But somehow, we still need to make Ivy feel welcome and at home with us.”

Trace came back from his lab, which was connected to the office. “Any suggestions of what her other half is?” he queried.

I could only guess but wanted to hear Rage’s opinion since he had also witnessed Ivy’s magic. Her mystic wolf. “Rage?”

Rage rested his elbows on his knees, fingers interlaced as he considered Ivy. “I would assume a witch but with the white light, I now think that maybe she’s part white mage. It’s the only thing that makes sense.”

I would tend to agree but something did not add up. “Devon said she healed him.”

Everyone but Rage had a slight reaction to the news.

Axel shook his head in disbelief. “I have thought about that, and I just don’t think it is possible, Luca. Not even a mage has that kind of power. They work with spells and with nature. Witches need to use potions. So no,” he denied, “it is not possible. I know Devon thinks she healed him, but he must be mistaken.”
