Ivy
Dressed in another pair of baggy sweatpants and Luca’s oversized grey t-shirt, I looked like a little girl playing dress-up. After throwing my damp hair into a messy bun, I headed downstairs.
Almost all the chairs in the dining room had been taken. The empty seats were the ones the guys sat in for breakfast. A few lingered in the living area, spilling outside onto the lawn. Everyone sounded happy as they chatted and laughed with each other.
Voices hushed as I passed, eyes following my every step. One lady smiled, and another stepped forward, holding a serving tray filled with drinks.
“Hi, you must be new. I’m Lori.” A beautiful petite blond with kind eyes introduced herself.
I took the offered drink from the servant and smiled at the blond. “I’m Ivy.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Ivy. I just love pack get-togethers. I wonder what the occasion is. Wow, I just love your hair….”
Apparently, Lori was a huge talker, and it didn’t matter if I answered or not. I liked her instantly.
“Is this the entire pack?” I queried, looking around. There had to be forty or fifty people here.
“Yes and no. Most of us are part of Alpha Blackthorn’s pack and a few others are here to help take care of the grounds. Alpha Blackthorn and Alpha Rhodes allow pack members to alternate between the two areas. And when Alpha Blackthorn must travel because of his regional alpha duties, Alpha Rhodes takes over.”
Wow, that was a mouthful.
“Lori, would you care to introduce me?” A beautiful brunette asked as she saddled next to me. Perfectly styled hair, large boobs, designer clothes, red lipstick stretching into a fake smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
I noticed how Lori dropped her gaze and clammed up. “Ms. Raynes, this is Ivy. Ivy, Ms. Raynes.”
“Violet Raynes. My father is Alpha of the Western Moon Valley Pack, and I am soon to be Regional Alpha female.” She held out her hand like she expected me to kiss it or some shit like that.
Ignoring the hand, I mumbled, “Uh, good for you,” and then turned away from the fake woman. “Lori, care to show me around?”
Violet grabbed my arm, hissing in an angry voice. “You will show me respect….” My eyes shot to her hand; voices faded as my vision tunneled. This stranger dared to grab me? To assert her dominance over me? Violet had pissed me off, and my wolf was also livid! She snarled inside my head, and I knew my eyes were glowing as I slowly lifted my eyes until we locked gazes. Both were angry until hers widened and turned slightly fearful. Sweat beaded her brow as she tried to maintain eye contact. A whimper escaped when my wolf flooded the air with her alpha vibes.
My wolf did not appreciate any wolf who tried to dominate us, and even after Violet dropped her gaze, it wasn’t good enough. My wolf didn’t like the fact that this woman had claimed what she deemed as ours.
Silence and then whimpers sounded around the room. Violet dropped to her knees, her face almost touching the floor.
A hand landed on my shoulder and I instantly relaxed. “Ivy,” he said, his breath brushing across my ear.
Luca’s voice soothed me like nothing else could. His touch relaxed my wolf enough that she cut the alpha vibes. Instead of wanting retribution, she clawed at my skin, wanting out so she could mark our mate. I took a big breath, pushed my wolf back, and turned. “Hi, Luca.”
He smiled. “I see you are making friends.”
I snorted a laugh. “You know me. Making friends all day long. Have you met Lori?”
Everyone had staggered back to their feet. Lori stood with wide eyes and was speechless. “Al…Alp…Alpha,” she finally mumbled.
“You are visiting from Alpha Rhodes pack, correct?” Luca asked, and Lori vigorously nodded.
“Luca,” Violet hissed. “I need to speak with you privately.”
“Not now, Violet.”
“Luca,” she tried again, this time grabbing his arm.
My wolf growled an eerie sound, low and menacing. She didn’t like anyone touching him but her.
Luca jerked back and glared at Violet. “I have explained this to you. If you cannot handle it, then feel free to leave.”
She glared, her lips pressed into a hard line before she turned and headed for the door.
