Maybe I could do his.

It didn’t take long for others to trickle in and enjoy the MMA fights with us. I must have fallen asleep.

Chapter 18

Ivy

After moving into the pack house, I settled into a routine. Every day, I grew more and more comfortable with Luca. We spent our mornings having sex and cuddling before heading to breakfast. After spending the day with Devon as he tried to coax my magic to the surface, I joined Luca for dinner. Sometimes I spent time with Lori in the back garden.

This place was starting to feel like an actual, home and that scared me. Thankfully, I hadn’t seen Violet around anymore.

Come nighttime, we all sat around the TV room and watched a fight. Sometimes, it would be a movie. I usually ended up with my head in Luca’s lap and my feet in Devon’s. My wolf loved the togetherness. She loved being surrounded by other wolves.

Devon and I were quickly becoming good friends. Mine and Axel’s interactions were stiff and awkward, but they were getting better each day. Trace stayed in his office and Rage just watched me with those intense green eerie eyes. My wolf kept a close eye on him.

Tonight would be my first pack run. My wolf couldn’t wait and constantly tried to break free and leap from my chest. At least it felt that way.

It was still morning when I found myself in the basement, facing off with Devon again. He circled me before charging forward, knocking me off balance.

“Again,” he ordered.

It was getting ridiculous. My magic had always been there, demanding an outlet. So why would it fail me now? It’s as if some strange force sucked it right out of me and left me a regular shifter with an odd-looking wolf with glowing silver eyes, and it pissed me off. The irony wasn’t lost on me either. My entire life, I strived to hide my magic, and now it left me both puzzled and frustrated.

“It won’t work, Devon,” I huffed. A sheen of sweat covered my entire body. It’s a good thing I had my hair in a ponytail. “Maybe that’s why Caroline taught me to fight without relying on magic. Maybe being a half-breed makes it spotty or something. I don’t’ know.”

“It’s there, Ivy. We just have to find the trigger.”

He had told me several times that magic comes from different sources. Elemental magic came from either fire, water, wind, or earth. Other magic came from spells and potions. I knew I didn’t need any of that, and I was almost positive my magic wasn’t elemental.

Rage suddenly appeared, filling the doorway with his lean muscled body. My wolf instantly stood alert, recognizing his inner beast as powerful and dangerous. This was his thing. He lurked and watched every single day. Not for long, but long enough to unnerve me. He wasn’t as powerful as us but still a threat. He never spoke, just looked on with his scrutinizing stare. Like he was doing right now.

Without a word, he rushed me full speed ahead. Arms pumping, his face twisted in anger. My wolf bristled, wanting to confront the danger. But instead, my magic rushed to my middle, gathered quickly, then burst outward. The entire room was bathed in a white glow as Rage and Devon flew backward and hit the wall.

“Oh shit!” What did I do? Devon moaned, still sprawled out on the floor, while Rage quickly got to his feet. Those damn eyes penetrated my soul. He took two quick steps toward me, and I felt the magic stir again. “Don’t,” I said in a strange commanding voice.

Rage stopped in his tracks. Devon climbed to his feet and rubbed his head. “What the hell was that?” he asked. “How did you do that?”

“I don’t know. It just happened.” I said, a little exasperated. If there was a way to control it, I damn sure would.

Rage’s eyes never once left my face when he said in his low menacing voice, “Protective magic.” I guess he didn’t like getting thrown against the wall.

Devon narrowed his eyes at me, trying to figure out what Rage was talking about. “Are you sure?”

Rage shrugged. “It seems like it.” A sinister grin spread across his face. “Perhaps I should take over her training. She obviously isn’t afraid of you.”

Swallowing hard, I stared him down. “And what makes you think I’m afraid of you?” Yes, I challenged him. It probably wasn’t my grandest idea.

I think his lips twitched. Then his eyes slid between Devon and me before he said, “Luca wants to see you both in the dining room.”

Devon and I exchanged a curious glance before we headed up with Rage following right behind us.

Axel and Trace were sitting around the table. Luca wrapped his arms around me while Devon and Rage also took a seat.

“I stink.” I tried to pull away, but Luca wouldn’t let me.

“You smell divine. Mmm,” and then he licked my neck before nipping the skin. “One day soon, I’m going to leave my mark on you right there.”

I scoffed, “Only if you can pin me down,” I whispered back. My wolf loved making him prove himself worthy.
