With my back facing a large room, I slowly undressed and held my arms out to the side. The magic gathered in my middle and the warm tingle spread down my arms. In a blink, my wolf took control. It took mere seconds before her eyes landed on Rage’s light brown wolf. He towered over her by at least four inches, but she didn’t care. She was pissed! Not at Rage, but at Luca and the bitch that offered herself to him. Her head swung toward the door, and I felt her need to run back and finish the job. Kill the bitch and make an example out of her. Nobody touched what was ours.
Rage growled, gaining her focus again.Don’t kill him, I thought to her. She snarled, but I knew she would let him live, or at least I hoped she would. After all, he was pack.
She faced him with a fierceness that scared even me. I could feel her need for vengeance. Unfortunately, Rage would take the brunt of her anger.
The wolves circled each other. Rage leaped and she dodged. Immediately turning, she bit into his leg. Then, using his other leg, Rage kicked her in the side. Even though my wolf was in control, I still felt the slight pain in my ribs.
After circling and snapping for five minutes, my wolf flooded the room with alpha vibes and took off in a sprint—straight at Rage. We clashed in midair with snarls and growls before crashing and rolling on the floor. Teeth snapping, claws digging into fur and flesh, she spotted her opening and went for the kill. Her teeth latched onto his throat.
He stilled…
Don’t kill him!I shouted at my wolf.
Ivy, come back.I heard Rage’s deep calm voice inside my head.
Begging my wolf for control, she stepped back, and I felt the change overtake me. Naked and covered with gashes, I scrambled to get away from Rage’s wolf.
Luca’s voice boomed inside my head.Ivy, answer me, dammit! I feel your pain. Where are you hurt?
Huh, my wolf must have been blocking him. Neat trick.Go to hell, asshole.Not my best come back, but it’ll do.
After dressing, I turned just as Rage buttoned his pants. When his eyes met mine, I shrugged. I told him that we were two different entities. I couldn’t help what my wolf chose to do.
Rage seemed deep in thought as I handed him a bottle of water.
“Told you so.” Low blow for me but it’s the truth.
“You really had no control over her?” He sat beside me on the bench and gulped a drink of water.
“Nope.” A smirk played on my lips. “I did ask her not to kill you, though.”
He let out a long slow breath. “Thanks for that.”
I could tell he was a little rattled. Of course, almost dying would do that to anyone. And my wolf was that close to ripping his throat out.
“Do you know what she was thinking?”
I snorted. “Oh yes. My wolf is beyond pissed at Luca, and all she wanted to do was hunt down that—that bitch—and rip her fucking throat out.”
With his elbows on his thighs, Rage looked over at me. I could tell that he was shaken up, which said something about him. “Ivy, your wolf is one mean bitch when she’s angry.”
“Yeah,” I said, looking away.
“She’s also powerful. And cunning.” A grin broke out on his face. “Hell, if you weren’t Luca’s fated mate, I take you for myself.”
“Rage,” a deadly voice startled us both.
Rage’s back snapped into a straight line. He slowly turned to find Luca standing right behind us. I didn’t have to look. I could feel his presence, and he was pissed. Good, that made two of us.
“Alpha,” Rage said, standing to his feet.
Luca’s eyes drifted between the two of us, but I refused to look at him.
“We just received word that the vampires are organizing. According to my informant, they will attack soon, but he wasn’t sure exactly when. We need to be ready. Axel and the others are already in the conference room. Run along. I will be there shortly.”
“Yes, alpha.”
Rage disappeared but I refused to acknowledge Luca. My wolf didn’t give a fuck about vampires. She wanted the she-wolf on a carving platter. And then I remembered how Luca defended her. Pain pierced my heart, but he chose his side. I just wished I didn’t have to live with it.
