Vampires were fast and if they decided to attack tonight…the guys were no match for that many of them. My wolf pushed her legs harder and faster than ever before. We had to get to them. They were pack, and I needed to save my mate.

Why didn’t I talk to Luca earlier? Oh shit, what if something happens to him?

I tried to think straight, clear my head and focus and what I knew. There were at least ten or fifteen people in the pack house. Maybe more had shown up while I was planting stakes. That still left roughly one hundred against fifteen. Terrible odds. The vampires could rip through fifteen wolves in a matter of minutes.

My head felt dizzy and I stumbled. What was happening? I could see the back door, just a little further…the mating bond snapped, my wolf’s legs faltered, and she slid about ten feet on her belly.

My chest felt like someone had ripped out my heart. My wolf wanted to howl but I warned her to remain silent. Finally, after a couple of tries, she got to her feet and stalked toward the back door. We both let our anger push away the agony as my wolf focused on ripping out someone’s throat.

My wolf couldn’t open the back door, so she changed back to human form. I didn’t care that I stood naked, nor did I care who I ran into. I had one objective, find Luca and the others.

It was eerie quiet as I stalked through the house. My nose led me to the living area. Dead wolves lay scattered around, and a vampire with red eyes dropped Luca on the floor, his eyes opened and fixed.

That’s when I noticed more vampires surrounding me. If someone spoke, I couldn’t hear it. My grief and anger drowned out my senses. Power fueled by my emotions built inside my chest. When it became too great to control, I held my arms wide, threw my head back, and let go.

White magic shot from every inch of my body, encasing the entire room and killing every vampire in sight. When the magic dissipated, I dropped to my knees and crawled over to Luca, cradling his head in my lap as I rocked back and forth.

A hand landed on my shoulder, making me flinch.

“Ivy, come with me,” a familiar voice said.

My unfocused eyes glanced over my shoulder. “Eric?”

“Come on, Ivy. Let’s go.”

“I can’t. I can’t leave Luca. They…they killed him, Eric.” I sobbed.

His hands slipped under my arms and lifted me up. “I know. But this is not the end. You’ll see. Now let’s go.”
