Whatever it was, she was more than happy to give him what he needed. Because she needed it too.

There was a knock on the door and he stiffened. “Go away.”

“Excuse me?”

Uh-oh. That sounded like the doctor.

“Is something wrong?” the doctor asked, sounding closer.

“Yeah, there’s something wrong. She just stopped breathing,” Gray explained.

Maeve turned her head to look up at the doctor who was scowling at Gray.

“What? Why didn’t you call for help? Can you put her on the bed so I can examine her?”

Gray grunted, but lifted her onto the bed. She stared up at the doctor with an apologetic grimace. But she kept a tight hold of Gray’s hand. Luckily, the doctor seemed okay with working around that.

“What happened?”

“I went to the bathroom while she was sleeping. When I came back, she wasn’t fucking breathing. I woke her up and she started breathing again.”

“Ahh. I see. Well, you seem to be breathing all right now, Maeve. Let’s just check your oxygen levels.” The doctor put the monitor on her finger. “All right, they’re fine. It might have been a nightmare. Were you dreaming about the drowning?”

“I . . . I don’t know. I still can’t remember anything.”

“I would suggest is talking to a therapist. You’ve been through something traumatic. I believe we have some information to give you for one.”

“O-okay.” She didn’t think she’d call them, though. She didn’t have the best relationship with therapists.

The doctor eyed her skeptically, but didn’t say anything. “All right, the good news is that your MRI was clear which means you’re free to go home. Now, you can stay another night if you’d like with this latest development or you can go home now.”

“Now. I want to leave now.”

The doctor’s lips twitched. “Right. I’ll get the paperwork started and that information for you.”

She turned to Gray once the doctor left. “I’m free!”

Gray squeezed her hand. “You are, baby. Time to take you home.”

She bit her lip. “Home? To your home?”

“Yes, to my home.”

“Where exactly is that?”

He ran his hand over his face. “Shit. There’s a lot we need to talk about.”

“There really is.”

“I live with my boss. I have a suite of rooms in his house and it’s private. But if you don’t like that, we can look at something else. I have plenty of money. We just need somewhere secure.”

“Oh. I don’t really mind where we live. But I’d like to spend a little bit of time with my friends. I’ve barely seen them. Also, I really need to check on Abe.”

He frowned. “I don’t like you going back to the place where your stalker attacked you.”

“But is he likely to come back? Sampson said he’s increasing security. And you’ll be there. You won’t let anyone harm me.”

“Damn right, I won’t,” he said arrogantly. “All right, I’m going to call Sampson and ask about this security. If I decide it’s good enough, we’ll stay for one night. That’s all. Understand?”
