“That’s true. You’d be lost without me, wouldn’t you, Daddy?”
“That I would, little girl. That I definitely would.”

Her tummy was a mess.
And it had nothing to do with the chicken parmesan she’d had for dinner.
Nope, it had everything to do with guilt.
“What’s wrong, baby?” Gray asked, looking up from his phone to where she was stood by the hotel door. “Is your tummy upset?”
“Yes.”
The guilt was still eating a hole in her tummy.
“What can I do to help? Do you want me to rub it? Is it your period? Where’s your heating pad? In your suitcase?”
“It’s not my period. It’s . . . it’s . . . I feel so bad,” she wailed.
He blinked. “What?”
“I feel so bad about lying to you about my period. I feel guilty. And I want it to stop. Will you make it stop, Grumpy Bear?”
“What are you asking for?”
She bit her lip. She couldn’t believe she was saying this. “Can you punish me?”
He raised his eyebrows. “You sure?”
She rubbed her tummy. “Yes.”
He was silent for a long moment, then he sat on the bed and crooked a finger at her. Oh, thank goodness. But when she grew closer, he didn’t immediately draw her over his lap. Nope, he pulled her between his legs.
“You really think this will help? Me punishing you? Putting you over my lap and spanking you?”
“Yes, please. That’s what I need.”
He frowned, but nodded. “You were naughty to lie to me.”
“Yes.”
“And I owe you a punishment for trying to get between me and Sampson.”
She winced. Drat. She’d forgotten about that.
“And for taking another snickerdoodle, although I was only going to give you a time-out for that.”
“I hate being in time-out,” she groaned.
“You’re not meant to like it, little girl. Right, here’s what is going to happen. You’re going to get a spanking for lying to me. Then you’re going to spend ten minutes in the corner to think about your actions. While you’re in the corner, your bottom is going to be plugged to help you be extra mindful.”
That did not sound like fun.
“Then you can write fifty times that you will not put yourself in danger.”
“Daddy, when I said I felt guilty, I thought you’d just give me one punishment, not three!”
