Edna giggled while Edith slapped him on the arm. “Such a charmer.”

“He is, isn’t he?” Kay said with a touch of sarcasm in her voice, but she liked the fact that he was willing to flirt with the harmless older women and make their day.

“It worked on you, didn’t it dear?” Edna asked.

Kay opened her mouth protest, but then closed it again. She’d had enough of hiding their relationship, so she grabbed Damon’s arm. “It sure did.” She gazed up at him and decided to forge ahead with her confessions, although she was sure Damon already knew what she was about to reveal next. “I fell in love with him.”

“You’re a lucky man, Damon,” said Edith. “Our Kay is one of the good ones.”

“I know, and I’m very lucky.” A grin covered his face, and Kay regretted that she had told him how she felt in such a blunt way because it was the kind of thing that should be followed up with a kiss. Damon broke his gaze with Kay and pointed at the medium-size juicer. “I’d go with that one.”

“That’s the one I picked,” Edna said. Kay grabbed Damon’s hand to pull him away before they got dragged into one of the Butler twins’ spats.

“You did not,” Edna snapped back as Kay sped up. “I suggested it. You thought we should get the smaller one.”

Their voices faded away as Kay led Damon down the aisle with Halloween decorations. She had planned to kiss him there, but a man was browsing the aisle, so she stopped when she saw a stack of candy buckets shaped like a pumpkin and took one off the shelf. “This ought to do.”

“Do you need five?” Damon asked as he reached for another plastic pumpkin.

Since she was looking for containers to hold the lollipops the Knight witches planned to hand out on Halloween, she said, “Yes, thanks.” As Damon held the buckets, Kay wandered down the aisle to see if there might be something else she needed. A stuffed spider was soft on her fingers as she touched it and considered spelling the man lingering nearby to leave the aisle. “I can’t wait to see one of Natalie’s books she’s spelling. Such a clever idea.”

“It will be once she figures out the spell. She’s struggling with keeping the vapor from turning into water that soaks the pages.”

“That sounds like something you could find in our library,” Kay said. “Tell her she’s welcome to come look and pick our brains. Between the five of us we’re bound to come up with a way.”

“Are you saying the Brannigan witches aren’t talented enough to do it?”

“No, I’m saying we’re a resource she hasn’t tapped yet,” Kay answered, moving further down the aisle even though she knew Damon was teasing. She smiled over her shoulder at him. “Besides, you told me once that you thought your sister was craving some witch girlfriends. I think she and Bri might enjoy each other.”

“You’re right.” Damon set a small metal ghost statue back in its place. “She spends too many nights at home and tends to keep to herself. She hasn’t had a boyfriend in forever. I think she’s afraid being a witch makes her undesirable.”

“She’s not wrong, Damon,” Kay said, thinking about Tucker. “It can definitely be a thing.”

“Yes, well, guys who don’t like witches haven’t got any idea what they’re missing.” They turned the corner to go down the next aisle. “I think she should take a page from me and capitalize on her magic. It gets me the girls.”

“Really?” Kay asked as she paused to check out a bird feeder. She was enjoying the banter with Damon.

“Got you, didn’t I?”

Kay turned to him. “You didn’t dazzle me with your witchcraft, Damon.”

He pumped his eyebrows as he stepped close and trapped her against the shelves. “That’s because you haven’t seen my cape yet.”

Kay put her hand on his chest and gazed up at him. “I can hardly wait.”

He leaned in close to touch his forehead against hers. “You love me. Do you have any idea how happy that makes me?”

“I might.” Kay’s heart filled with the warmth of their love as she slid her hand around his neck to tug him down for a kiss.

Her lips had just brushed against his when she heard, “Ahem!”

Kay glanced over to see the noise came from Jeannie, and when she noticed the slender woman standing with her arms crossed and glaring, Kay imagined the shopkeeper was not happy that the Butler twins scooped her on the latest gossip.

Kay said, “Jeannie. I think we found what we needed. We’re ready to check out.”

“Oh, no you’re not. I believe you owe me some details, Kay Knight.”

Damon chuckled. “There’s not much to tell. I came to Night Meadow Island to claim my witch, but wouldn’t you know it? She claimed me first.”
