“The internet. It’s what everyone is watching these days, and it’s available any time they want it. People watch my shows over and over again.”

She narrowed her eyes at him.“You? Huh. Okay, I’m listening.”

“I’d like you to be my spirit expert who helps me rid Night Meadow Island of the ghosts who are threatening to take over.”

“Nobody is actually haunting the island, Damon.”

He chuckled. “That’s because you haven’t asked them to yet.”

A grin covered Celia’s face.“Ah.”She crossed her arms.“That does sound fun. Will I get a production credit for it?”

“Of course.”

“And top billing right along with you and Kay?”

“Definitely.”

“I’ll have to check my schedule.”Celia studied him for a moment.“You’re sweet on her, aren’t you?”

Damon shrugged, not sure if he should admit it to her yet. “Maybe.”

Celia shook her head.“And they say spirits are conniving. I suppose I can help you. I’ll be on the widow’s walk preparing for my final demise.”Celia floated away, and Damon turned in search of Kay.

She was still in the cruiser, and the lights had stopped flashing so he walked over to the car. Tucker lowered his window when he noticed Damon. His face was pale when he said, “I’ve called for backup.”

“I’d be happy to help.” Damon knew if there was a time to be humble it was now. “I’ve got a bit of experience with spirits, and I don’t know if Kay told you, but I’m a wizard with decent skills.” Damon looked past him at Kay. “That is, if the lovely witch wouldn’t mind my help.”

Her brow was furrowed with skepticism, but she said, “That’s a good idea, and very gracious of you to offer.” She put her hand on Tucker’s arm as if she were comforting him, and Damon had to resist a smile thinking about what that had to be doing to the officer’s ego. Kay said, “Let Damon and I see if we can deal with this.”

“If you’re sure,” he said. “Roger and I can handle this, you know.”

“I do know that, but maybe you won’t have to. This is why you brought me.”

Tucker let out a sigh, and Damon was glad to see the man wasn’t foolish enough to act on pride. “Okay.” He turned to Damon. “But the first sign of danger and you two get out of there. Got it?”

Damon nodded as Kay got out of the car, and the two walked back into the house.

When they were in the entryway, Kay hissed at him, “I don’t know what stunt you think you’re pulling here but if you screw this up for me, I’ll roast your social media presence with the wrath of the entire lineage of Knight witches.”

Her eyes were flashing with her magic, and her cheeks were flushed with anger. He had a strong urge to grab her by the shoulders and crush her with a kiss. No woman had ever looked sexier to Damon. “Feisty suits you.”

“I— you— Ugh! You can’t charm me, DamonBrannigan, so don’t even try.” She moved toward the stairs. “Where is Celia? Nora!”

“Up here!” Nora called down. “Margaret is singing on the widow’s walk!”

Kay stomped up the stairs with Damon behind her. And he took great pleasure in the view her tight jeans offered. She was definitely not the kind of woman who should end up with a guy like Tucker.

When they got to the attic, Kay had managed to tamp down her anger, and she leaned her head out the window that led to the walkway. “It’s time for you to go,” she said softly to Celia, who had stopped singing.

“Not until Damon makes me a promise.”

Damon didn’t like Celia’s tone, and it occurred to him that she’d been awfully quick to agree to double cross Kay, the woman who’d asked her to haunt Nora’s house in the first place. He squeezed into the window frame with Kay. “What do you want?”

“Kay gets a date with Tucker or the deal is off.”

Damon blinked in surprise as he bit his tongue, because he was about to balk at the request, and he wasn’t sure if it was his pride or if the twinge of pain in his heart was jealousy. It didn’t matter though, because in order for his plan to take his career to the next level to work, Damon needed to be in Kay’s good graces. That meant he’d have to help her with Tucker. “I wouldn’t dream of standing in the way of love. Deal.”

“Wonderful.” Celia turned quickly, causing the bottom of her mermaid-style dress to flounce up in the air, and she moved toward the front of the house where Tucker would be sure to see her performance. She wailed loudly as she reached her arms up to the sky, and just as she got to the edge of the walkway, she jerked up into the sky and vanished as if she’d been plucked off the walk by an enormous hand.
