“Only fucking place they will forever be.” Ryder straightens to his full height before looking back at me. “Between the finest legs ever created and don’t you forget it.”

“I can’t even argue with you on that.” I have to ignore the twinge of irritation I feel not being able to reply how I once would. It’s a painful reminder of the conversation I had with Brooklynn yesterday. “Not that I’m not happy to see both of you, but what brings you to Savannah?”

“One, we were invited. Two, I didn't realize we had to have a reason to visit a friend. Three, we came down to celebrate this great thing old Daire Bear did.”

Graham laughs and I join him. I’d forgotten all about that name. It's been a very long time since I've heard it.

“That's great! where are you staying?”

Trent and Ryder both look at each other then look at me. at almost the exact same time they both say ...

“With you.”

“At your place.”

I look at Graham who shrugs his shoulders. The brothers laugh then slap my shoulder.

“We're kidding. we're staying at the hotel where the whole shindig is happening.”

“Convenient,” I tell them.

“It makes it easier for Trent to get some ass and move on.”

Again, I laugh, but this time I don't really feel it, given the current state of my affairs, I might be in the same boat as Trent. I don't know why I'm saying might when there is no way Brooklynn and I could have a future.

I shake myself trying to get rid of thoughts about Brooklyn. I have a great event happening tonight and that is going to get most of my attention. My friends from Hampton are going to get the other part.

“We have a couple hours to kill, what do you guys want to do?”

Just as I'm asking that question, there's a knock at my door. I don't get a chance to answer the knock before the door is being opened by Ryder.”

Hugs abound and go around for a few minutes. When they break apart, everyone is all smiles. It's a great feeling.

“Looks like the Midol crew is back together.”

Each of us groans. We’ve hated that old joke since our parents overused it in our teens.

“Same old Hope. Still corny and dorky as ever,” Ryder says.

We all laugh. Hope doesn’t, which makes us laugh that much harder.

“Very funny. I just came by to make sure you were ready to give your speech tonight, Jackson.”

“Yes, I'm ready. Unless you wanna do it?”

She laughs, one that is without humor. I know she hates speaking in front of people. It's one of the reasons I volunteered to do it.

“Nopers. That’s all you.”

She leans in then kisses my cheek.

“See you in a few hours. I’m going to head out early. I’m going to hang out with these two idiots before the event.”

“Are you trying to woo them into living in Savannah?”

“I’m already sold. Nee and I have a place here. We’ve been in Hampton for a couple weeks in the summer to help out with some projects her father wanted to complete. We’re trying to ...”

“Convince me to move here. Runt misses his big bro. Not that he’d ever admit it,” Trent finishes for Ryder.
