I don't even care that I am wearing one of Daire’s shirts and last night's outfit. All I care about is getting to the hospital. By the time I arrive, Journee’s parents and Noelle are waiting for me.

“What happened?” I ask.

I don't bother with greetings or anything else. I know it has to be serious if we're all here.

“She was ... attacked,” her mother shares.

That's all she can get out before she falls apart. Her brown eyes pool with tears. Mr. Forrester pulls he wife into the comfort of his arms. Mrs. Forrester and her husband, an older gentleman with graying brown hair, look like they were awakened out of their sleep to come to the hospital. Both are in what looked like their pajamas.

“Forrester family?” a young woman with blonde hair, green scrubs, and a white coat calls.

All four of us stand and move towards her.

“Hi. Do you mind following me?”

We all shake our heads then follow the doctor into a room right off the main hall.

“Mr. & Mrs. Forrester, I was advised that the two of you were made aware of what's going on. I was also advised that there will be two friends here what happened to be doctors.”

“Psychology,” Noelle clarifies.

At the same time, I say, “Physical Therapy,” pointing to myself then pointing to Noelle, I say,” Psychology.”

“Yes. she listed the two of you as emergency contacts and stated it was fine to share with you what is going on.”

“Okay. is she alright?”

“For the most part. Yeah, he went mind taking a seat, I'd like to prepare you for what you're going to see.”

For the next fifteen minutes or so, the doctor lets us know what happened to our friend and their daughter. The good thing was she wasn't sexually assaulted. The bad thing was she was physically beaten. When she was called away at the party, the person on the phone said she was needed at work. She was at the gate of Hope House when she was attacked.

The doctor wanted us to also know the extent of the damage. She gave each of us a chance to leave the room. No one moved. The doctor told us that most of the damage happened below the neck. Journee has a broken rib and leg. She has facial bruising and a busted lip. There are also lacerations on her arms and legs from a broken glass. She also has a black eye.

By the end, each of us is wiping away tears.

“I wanted to speak with you first, so it isn’t as much of a shock when you see her. This is a difficult situation, and we don’t want to make it worse for her. She hasn’t seen herself so she’s possibly going to look to you to deduce the damage.”

“So, we should lie?” Mrs. Forrester asks.

“No. That’s not what she’s saying. She wants us not to breakdown in front of Journee. That might make things worse.”

“Do we know who did this?” Mr. Forrester asks.

“We do. I can’t divulge that information, but he’s back in the facility and under the care of his doctors.”

Mr. Forrester nods but looks as if that isn’t the response he wanted to hear.

“Can we see her?” I ask.

“Yes. Normally, we’d limit the number of people going in at once but. I’ll allow you all to see her. Just remember what we talked about.”

Hand in hand, Noelle and I follow Mr. and Mrs. Forrester along with the doctor to see our friend. Nothing ever prepares you for a situation like this. The entire time I’m walking towards the door, I try to find the words to say.

No words were necessary.
