“Take the next lefton Lighthouse Drive,” the robotic voice of the GPS told me, so I slowed the car and prepared to turn toward his home. My home.

“What am I doing?” I muttered to myself, my stomach in knots. I sat in the middle of the two lane highway, hesitant to turn onto the road that would take me to my future husband.

Husband. Up until two days ago, I thought Josh would be my husband. Hell, I’d made it as far as the alter before I took off. Runaway Bride was one of my favorite movies, but I never intended to be one myself. Yet, I pulled a Maggie Carpenter, kicking off my heels halfway down the aisle, lifting my Vera Wang dress and sprinting out of the church and into the limo waiting out front.

Reporters, judges, colleagues of my dad’s, my mom’s country club friends, and a whole bunch of people I didn’t know gasped as I turned and ran from my fiancé and the life I’d planned to have with him. I didn’t know the man at the end of the aisle because if I did, I would have known what he was up to for two of the three years we’d been dating.

The blast of a horn behind me made me jump and brought me out of the memory from a few days ago. I took a deep breath and turned down the gravel road, unsure of what my future held with a marriage of convenience. If I was going to marry someone for convenience, I wanted it to be someone that I knew the score with going in. That was why I answered his ad on Email Order Bride. Josh had played me for a fool, but I knew what Dax wanted, and his wants coincided with mine. He had a child I’d help him raise, and he’d give me a home away from the scandal I’d caused and the emotionless black hole that was my family.

Dax Winchester was straight up and honest, saying he wasn’t looking for someone for himself. He was looking for a mom for his kid, nothing more. If we could be friends and business partners, great, but he wasn’t interested in any type of relationship beyond that.

Neither of us wanted a relationship. I’m sure he had his reasons for ordering himself a bride online, just like I had mine for accepting his proposal.
