Heather

Iwas so sure I was going to lose my brother.

When Dralle roared, I swear I thought it was over. I thought I was too late. My feet flew, changing to paws that could carry me faster, and yet I still didn’t get there in time. It felt like the prophecy had come true.

Still, he stood up.

Isaac looked like his pride was ruined more than anything, but Dralle’s arm was leaking blood quickly. As much as I wanted to just breathe and feel the release of the fact that my brother wasn’t going to die, I had to focus on keeping my boyfriend alive.

The two of them moved indoors, supporting each other, slipping in out of the rain.

Isaac’s friends seemed to vanish when things went too far, and I wished I could have beaten the shit out of them for not stopping this mess. “Let me stitch that up for you,” Isaac offered. Dralle’s arm was spilling blood right onto the workspace floor.

“Just a towel is fine; it should heal itself within the next hour,” he said.

“Dragon stuff?” I huffed a surprised laugh. He smiled at me, looking relieved.

“No, just a leftover spell stuck on me from when I served.”

I nodded and grabbed some shop towels.

“Isaac, go grab some shirts and sweats from the back room,” I bossed my brother. We kept spare clothes back there in case any job got too messy. He nodded and started to walk but paused awkwardly.

“Heather, I’m sorry, I just-”

“I’m glad you’re alive, save the apologies for later.”

I wasn’t lying.

I was almost giddy, despite the circumstances. I didn’t have to lose a brother or give up my fated mate because he killed him. It was over.

When my brother walked into the back, I snuck over to Dralle and stole a kiss. “Are you okay?” My voice was softer than intended, but I was worried.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” He looked like he was telling the truth, but it felt like something in him had changed out there. He kissed me back softly and sweetly before pulling back as my brother’s footsteps started heading back. Applying the towel to Dralle’s arm, I tried not to think about how we were sitting just feet away from where he went down on me the first time.

“Some clothes,” Isaac offered.

“Thanks.” Dralle winced as I applied a little more pressure to his wound.

“So, a dragon shifter, huh.”

“You should know what type of a shifter someone is before you get into a fight with them.” Dralle let out a soft chuckle. I expected Isaac to retaliate, yet instead, he laughed back.

Stunned, I stepped back as they handled themselves.

“What’s the fun in knowing what type of shifter a person is? I live on the edge.”

“That was almost the edge of my teeth.”

They laughed and started talking, figuring out why all of this even started. I walked over to the coffee pot and started a brew, feeling somewhere between breaking down from the relief and wanting to go back to sleep.

I’d never been this emotionally exhausted in my entire life.

“Wait, you don’t even have a car?”

“I could, but I fly, so I don’t see the use in it,” Dralle frowned.
