I smiled as they bantered, and I could feel my heart filling with love for both of these idiots. Dralle smiled over at me, and I smiled back as my brother tried to push him on the advantages of owning a motorcycle. It felt good.

Five cups of coffee, several deep conversations, and a small argument about shifting later, and my brother was headed out.

“I’m going to close the shop for the day, get some sleep,” I directed him.

“Wait, Heather’s taking time off? Dralle, man, you’ve changed her.”

Dralle laughed and waved him off before locking the door as my brother rode off.

“Come here,” he said softly. I rushed to him, wrapping my arms so tightly around him that it felt like when he was carrying me to fly me into Everglast. I rested my face against where his heart was beating, and I listened to it go. “I’m sorry I scared you like that,” he said softly.

“No, don’t be sorry. Isaac was going to try and kill you if you didn’t stand your ground.”

“Still, I’m pretty sure I sprained his ankle.”

“You’re both alive; it’s all I care about.”

Dralle leaned down and kissed me, and I melted against him. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” He didn’t miss a beat. Kissing me again, I felt him falter, and I pulled back to look at his face. “What if we never moved into the castle together?”

“What?”

“What if I really moved out here? I could buy us a house, or a condo, whatever you want. We could live comfortably.”

“You’d do that for me?”

“It’s for me too,” he shook his head. “When I’m there, I feel like I’m being suffocated. I’m petty, looked down on. Out here, I get to breathe.”

I felt like crying, relief that I wouldn’t have to leave my job or life here flooded me. Not to mention the kind of pain Isaac would go through if I ditched him now. Kissing Dralle, I held his face as close to mine and tried to let him feel how I cared about him.

He was everything.

“I want kids eventually,” I admitted.

“No rush.”

We laughed, the release of tension like an alcoholic buzz on my mind. Kissing him again, I listened as the rain poured outside, washing away the stress of the last few years. It was time for a fresh start, and Dralle would be the most significant part of it.
