I watched as that sunk in.

“Forgiveness,” he murmured.

A tear rolled down my cheek and he wiped it away with his thumb, his face soft, his touch softer. He pulled me onto his lap and wrapped his big arms around my hips and my waist. He splayed his hand over my tummy.

“How soon would you like to get married?” he rumbled.

“As soon as we can,” I agreed, looping my arms around his neck and smiling.

“How about today?” he asked, his face serious as always.

I laughed. “I’d do it!”

“I’m serious.”

“Right!”

His eyes locked onto mine. My smile faded away.

“I was busy this week. So was everybody else. We all worked together. Everything is ready,” he explained.

“We need a marriage license,” I whispered.

“We have one.”

“How? How did you get a license?” I demanded in disbelief.

He blushed. “Uh, Junie slipped your wallet out of your purse, and I took your identification down to City Hall and picked up a license.”

My mouth dropped open. I got off his lap and walked away from him a few steps then turned back to face him.

“We need a pastor,” I stated.

“Have one of those, too.” He watched me as I paced, my mind whirling.

“We need a photographer! I can’t get married without pictures!”

He nodded. “I hired a photographer as well. It’s a student, but she interned with Bex’s photographer, and he recommended her highly.”

“Music?” I whispered, my panic giving way to excitement.

“Lucky is going to play acoustic.”

“Oh, my Lord. You’ve thought of everything.” I slapped my palms over my cheeks. I was starting to believe that it could happen. I moved toward him.

“I had help.”

I stood in front of him and looked down into his kaleidoscope eyes. I placed my hands on his shoulders.

“Viking, I don’t have a dress,” I whispered, pained.

A girl dreamed of her dress. I didn’t want a traditional sort of gown, but I did want something that would be appropriate for marrying the man of my dreams.

“The girls got you one.”

I slapped my hands back to my cheeks. “Which girls? Not Mara!” I whispered, horrified.

He boomed out a laugh and snatched me back onto his lap in a tight hug.
