He watched as her eyes lost focus and her neck arched back. She closed her eyes and flattened her hands over his back. He let go of his control and slammed into her, again and again, then once more, before spilling his seed. His whole body shook with long suppressed need and the relief of finally having her exactly where he’d always dreamed she should be.

Chapter 22

I’m All In

Willa

The following couple of weeks my schedule consisted of spending at least one night during the week with Barrett either at his place or mine. He and I had lunch together on Tuesdays as per usual, and he hung out with Olivia and me on Thursdays, after which I headed to Mara’s to check in and have the occasional girls’ night.

Friday evenings began with picking up Olivia for a sleepover and keeping her until Saturday afternoon, when I’d drop her home and have dinner with Mara and Zale. Then I’d sneak off with Junie to see Barrett and Lenny perform before heading back to spend the night at either my place or his.

Sundays we packed up and headed out for our weekly drive-out. I loved that: the escape, the break from routine, the novelty heightening my senses, allowing me to feel.

Barrett’s place was not what I expected. His furniture was large and comfortable, his bed the same. Getting busy in his bed was much easier than in mine. He had a kitchen table and chairs that were nothing to write home about, and the requisite big screen tv. It was functional. This I expected.

What surprised me were the sheer number of framed photographs covering the walls. Family pics of his parents, the twins, Rhys and Rebecca. Nature and vista pics, excellent ones, that he took while on his drive-outs and hikes. Several pictures from Rhys and Bex’s wedding, including one of Mara, Zale, and Olivia, as well as several of me, adorned the walls. One of him and me together at the wedding, one I hadn’t seen the photographer take, sat on his bedside table.

“You’re a photographer!”

“Very amateur.”

“They’re excellent, beautiful in fact.”

“Thank you. Each one is a memory.”

I smiled. “You have beautiful memories.”

His eyes smiled back at me. “Getting more beautiful by the day.”

Friday morning, I sat at my workstation in my office replaying his sweet words repeatedly in my head and reminiscing about the activities that followed. I’d never experienced a connection with a man like I did with Barrett.

Sex with him, while demanding everything from me, demanded nothing from me at the same time. He had yet to allow me to take the lead, and he clearly dictated exactly what he wanted from me. There was no room for nerves, just the avalanche of pleasure he brought down on me.

I was still deep in my musings when a tall, well-dressed man in a suit entered through the front door. Junie and Minty were both at the back of the office so I stood to serve him.

“Hello. May I help you?”

We didn’t get much walk-in traffic. I heard Junie giggle behind me and glanced back at her quizzically. She twinkled at the man.

“Hello, superman. You’re here earlier than I expected.”

I gaped at her then turned back to see Lenny’s big grin. I stepped back in shock then laughed. Lenny in a suit, carrying a briefcase. Lenny with his hair parted on the side and falling over his forehead instead of spiked. Lenny sporting silver rimmed glasses and carrying a briefcase. Lenny without eyeliner, a concert tee, or ripped jeans.

“Lenny!”

He laughed out loud, gesturing to his getup. “My alter ego.”

“I didn’t even recognize you!”

“Apparently!”

Junie stepped forward. “I didn’t recognize him either when he met me for lunch

the first time.”

“She tried to blow me off, told me she was meeting somebody,” he told me, laughing.

Junie went up on tiptoes and he bent down to meet her halfway so she could brush her lips across his, then she turned to Willa and Minty.
