Vander nodded. “Absolutely. After dinner I’ll show you.”

“No. You won’t,” Yiayia scolded. “He don’t need to see that.”

Vander leveled a look at Yiayia, calm but uncompromising. “He’ll see it after dinner because it would be inappropriate for me to take my shirt off at the dining room table.” Yiayia opened her mouth to speak but Vander continued in a tone I had not heard from him before. “This is not a discussion, Yiayia mou, but your concern is noted.”

Yiayia’s mouth snapped closed, and she sat quietly smiling for a moment before answering. “Well, then. I want to see, too.”

Amber snickered. “You just want to see the abs Ruby told us about, Yiayia.”

Vander groaned, took off his glasses, and rubbed his hand roughly over his face.

I chortled.

Gus chuckled.

Amber snickered.

And the boys looked on in fascination.

Alex turned to Jace. “It’s much more exciting when the dads are invited.” He turned to his dad. “Do you have any tattoos, dad?”

Gus blushed. “Yeah, son. I do.”

“You do?” Amber asked, her mouth gaping.

Gus slid a sideways glance at her and nodded.

“Can I see?” Alex asked.

“Of course, son.”

“Amber, Ruby, if you guys have tattoos you better just tell me now!” Yiayia interrupted.

“Not me, Yiayia,” I said.

Amber quietly admitted, “I don’t. But I’m not opposed.”

“Humph.” Yiayia sat back in her chair. “Maybe Yiayia gonna get one. I gonna get a tomato on my golo.”

Amber and I looked at each other and howled.

“What?” Alex yelled. “What did she say?”

Amber shook her head, and I just laughed.

Vander turned to Alex with a grin. “She said she’s going to get a tomato tattooed on her ass.”

Alex’s mouth dropped open. He looked at Jace who wore a matching expression, and they fell into each other, laughing.

After dinner, Vander called Jace to go upstairs with him to my bedroom.

When they came back downstairs, Jace easily measured two inches taller.
