“Yes.” I nodded swiftly then ordered, “Move.”

His eyes lit up and he smiled. “There’s the Ruby I remember.” He kissed the corners of my mouth, pulled my thigh up over his hip, pulled out almost all the way, then drove back in hard.

“Ah, yes… this is what I’ve needed…” I breathed, throwing my head back.

I ran my hands down his sides, feeling the contours and muscles of his body that were new yet still familiar and, oh, so loved.

He ground his hips into my pelvis, brushing against my clit, filling every empty place.

“Vander, I’m there, agapi mou,” I warned him, and he kept up the same steady pace that I’d always needed.

I gripped the back of his neck and curled up, my forehead hitting his collarbone, my thighs tightening around his lean hips.

His breath fluttered against my temple. His back flexed under my hands; my eyes remained locked on the joining of our bodies.

I was so close, teetering on the edge.

He nuzzled his chin against the side of my face, dropped gentle kisses along my hairline, dipped to pull my earlobe gently into his mouth, all the while steadily maintaining his wicked pace, hitting every spot except the one I apparently needed.

I reached for an orgasm that remained stubbornly out of reach. I pressed my mouth against his chest, his shoulder, his throat.

I needed… something…

He kissed my temple and nuzzled his cheek against the side of my face. His breath quickened. “God, I love you, still,” he muttered roughly against my temple.

With those words, I came apart in his arms.

He carried me through to the end, steadily maintaining his pace. As the last tremor died, he hooked his elbow under my knee and planted his hand in the bed at my side. He thrust in hard, and I tipped my chin back to gaze up into his face from under my heavy-lidded eyes.

God, he was gorgeous.

The muscles in his arms flexed as he pushed himself up, his shoulders shadowing me, my knee hooked around his elbow, opening me further and allowing him to go impossibly deeper. I watched his lips tighten as he chased his release, his eyes roaming my face like a man desperate to remember. His movements stuttered. He released my leg, wrapped his hand around my thigh, and curled into me as he came with a deep grunt, tucking his face into my neck.

I’d forgotten about that, too.

I wrapped my legs around him and cradled the back of his head. His chest heaved and I heard him audibly swallow.

“I’m so fucking sorry I didn’t try harder,” he rasped out.

I stroked the hair I missed so much. “Shh...” I soothed. “You wouldn’t have Georgie.”

“God help me, I don’t know if-”

I tugged his hair. There were some things that shouldn’t be said. “Don’t go down that road, Vander,” I murmured. “There’s nothing good at the end of it.”

He went to move off, but I tightened my legs around the backs of his thighs, holding him to me. He stared down into my face.

He was miserable, his eyes shiny with unshed tears. Even as I watched, one tipped over the edge of his lid and fell onto my chest.

“Vander,” I whispered. “I love you, always.”

He went down onto his elbows, crushing me slightly under his weight.

He sighed deeply. “The custody battle, it’s going to last another year. At least. I can’t do anything to screw things up or my ex-wife is going to nail me to the wall.”

“Did you cheat on her?” I couldn’t believe we were having this conversation while he was still buried inside me.

I don’t know why I asked. Perhaps I could think of no other thing that would make a woman so angry.

“No. But she knew my heart belonged to you.”

“How?” I challenged. I tightened my legs around him, holding him to me, my jealousy and disbelief evident in the tone of my voice.

“She found my box of pictures and tried to throw them out.” He lifted his mouth in a half-smile, almost apologetically. “I never should have married her. I shouldn’t have allowed her to tie herself to me when I couldn’t love her.”

He rose on his hands again. I protested and he laughed. “Ruby, I’ve got to get rid of this condom. I’ll be right back.”

I unwound my legs from around his and watched him cross the room to the bathroom for only a moment before I turned my face away.

I hated seeing him walk away from me.
