“Just wait, Momma. It’ll clear in a minute,” Jace rested his hand on my shoulder, and I turned to meet his eyes. He smiled at me. Calm. Steady.

I sighed. “You’re right. Always so impatient, aren’t I.”

“You’re just excited to go talk to Thia and Minnie about your kissy books,” he teased.

I laughed, even as my eyes darted between the stretch of cars in front and the line forming behind me, boxing me in. My armpits dampened. I rolled my neck. Traffic began to move, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

“What do you know about my kissy books?”

He smirked, his mouth lifted at one side. “I know more than you think I do.”

“Really!” I drew the word out. “Maybe we should have a talk about all the things you think you know!”

“No, no, no!” He laughed. “Uncle Gus has me covered.”

My eyebrows hit my hairline. “Since when?”

“Since last weekend when he told Alex and I we were becoming men,” at this his skinny chest puffed out, “and that there were things we needed to know.”

“So… what did he tell you?” I wondered why Gus didn’t tell me. This definitely made the need-to-know category. I mean, if he was teaching my son about sex, shouldn’t I know what he’s teaching him?

I glanced at Jace. His eyebrows scrunched together. “Nothing yet. But he said when we have questions, to go to him.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God for Gus.

“He’s a good uncle,” I said.

“A good dad, too.” Jace murmured it softly under his breath, but I heard him just the same.
