“We could release it as a public service announcement.” Minty laughed her tinkling laugh.

“I just told you, I’m not a writer!” Amber protested. “What would I write?” She deepened her voice and continued. “‘He swung down off the castle wall, his broadsword in hand. The bitter winds whipped around us both, lifting the edge of his kilt and revealing the tip of his weenie.’”

My mouth dropped open, then I doubled over with laughter, clutching my stomach.

Minty covered her face with her hands. “Oh, my Lord, Amber! That was so bad!”

More laughter bubbled up from my stomach, and my chest filled with light to see Minty lose it. She had a good sense of humor, but she was usually so contained and proper. Seeing her lying on her side on the couch with her hands over her face tickled me.

I heard wild laughter coming from the boys, over and above Amber’s snickering and Minty’s tinkling laugh.

It was enough.

It had to be.
