My eyelids drifted shut. My entire universe centred around his fist in my hair, his determined mouth, and the hard length of his body against mine.

Please, please, kiss me.

As if he heard my unspoken request, he slanted his mouth over mine and delved inside, stroking my tongue, coaxing it out to play with his. I moaned into his mouth, wanting more. He pulled back and brushed gentle kisses over my gaping, gasping mouth. Too soon, he stopped, and, tucking my face into his shoulder, his bearded cheek pressed to my forehead, he hugged me.

“Vander…” I begged.

He chuckled roughly. “Gotta keep it PG, Ruby-mine.”

Awareness of where we stood slowly washed over me, and I blinked with embarrassment.

He untangled his fingers from my hair and smoothed his hand over my curls, then slid his arm from around my back, and stepped back, his hands light on my hips.

I swallowed hard and tamped down the desire coursing through my veins.

He cupped my jaw lightly and smiled down at me. “Did your cookie make it?”

I glanced around, noting with relief the lack of an audience, and pushed myself off the car. He took another step back to give me some room. I opened the paper bag with shaky fingers and peeked in.

“Well. It’ll be easier to share now.” I muttered wryly.

He slung his arm around my shoulders and pulled me tight into his side as he led me across the parking lot. “You’re going to share?” He grinned, looking down at me.

“I always share,” I stated primly.

“Not always…”

I laughed, knowing immediately the incident he referred to. “That was one time! Anyways, if you wanted a cookie, why didn’t you get yourself one?”

“Because I don’t want my own cookie. I want your cookie.” He squeezed me. “Give me a piece.”

“What are you going to give me for it?”

He slanted me a hard, warning look. “More than you’re ready for if you’re not careful.”

I quickly handed him a piece of cookie, and he laughed.

The sound filled me with light.

We didn’t have long to wait for our turn. The first few spins around the track he beat me by miles. I determined I would not let him win the last lap. I took off before he finished counting down and weaved my way back and forth, cackling like a maniac, doing my best to keep him from passing me.

I clearly heard him cuss me out, his laughter reaching me over the growl of the tiny engines, and I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Nearing the finish line, I stopped weaving and pressed the gas down as far as it would go, leaving him in my dust.

I jumped out of my kart, rubbing in my win.

“You, Ruby-mine, are a sore loser and a sore winner,” he pointed at me with a grin as he removed his helmet. “And you’re a cheater!”

“Cheater!” I scoffed. “Now, who’s a sore loser?”

He slung his arm around my shoulders as we crossed the lot to his car. Once buckled in, we headed towards Bayview Village. “Where are we going?”

“Do you trust me, Ruby-mine?” He asked again.

“Yes,” I replied, with no hesitation.

“Then let it be a surprise.”

He pulled in the parking lot of a popular Greek restaurant.
