“I wouldn’t dare look inside that file. The first week if I had it, yes, but after, not a chance.”

I wasn’t mad about the file. At first, maybe a little, but I could tell how annoyed he had become with me. I couldn’t blame him. After a while, I just didn’t want to irritate him that much anymore.

We lay like this for what seemed like days, though it had only been hours. I hadn’t found someone I had felt this perfectly content with before. The conversations ran deep, and we both found out so much about each other. I wished I had found him sooner. I could have had him open up like this two years ago. Although, maybe he needed that time to realize he did need someone next to him. That person was me. He trusted me. I felt honored to have his trust.

The next day, we continued as normal, heading into the office. Phone calls were pouring in; Hudson was swamped with meetings, but it was Friday. This meant we had a weekend ahead of us once this day was over, and believe me, I was ready. As soon as I saw her, I got furious.

“Can I help you, Lyla?” I said with a bitch look on my face.

“You can help me by letting Hudson know I’m here. We need to discuss some things,” she said as her boobs were practically jumping out of her midi red dress. She couldn’t be wearing higher heels, at least six inches. Something wasn’t right. Why did she dress this way for a business meeting? Something smelled fishy to me.

I knocked on Hudson’s door. “You have a visitor.” I could tell he knew by the sound of my voice that it wasn’t a good visitor. He peeked over my shoulder to see Lyla.

“Damn it, I can’t deal with her today. Please try to let her know I’m busy. If she pushes, then just send her in. I can’t keep avoiding her. It’s too risky, and I can’t afford to lose her husband’s business,” he said with a concerned look on his face. I could tell he didn’t want to deal with her, but for the sake of his business, if he had to, he would.

“Hudson is very busy now. He asked me to see if you could come back on Monday?” I said in the kindest voice I could.

“Not. I have been here three times, and he has not seen me. I will see him today. I can wait until he’s free if I need to,” she said, flicking her hair and scoffing. You could tell she was not used to being turned away.Deal with it, bitch. He doesn’t want you. Get it through your thick skull.

I signaled to Hudson that she wasn’t going to give up, and he waved his head toward his office. “Looks like he just freed up. Go ahead.”

I couldn’t say I was not observing her like a hawk. Hudson had told me about her, and I didn’t like women who tried to use their delicate parts to get what they wanted. It was disgusting. Hudson left the office door open. Lyla leaned over his desk, got in his face, and was talking to him. Her boobs were in his face, literally. I could see the disgusted look on his face. The jealous girl in me decided to do something. I took out my phone and turned on the video. Maybe she would stop after this.

“Hudson, I don’t know why you keep denying your attraction to me. Everyone can tell, even your assistant. Stop playing so hard to get and fuck me already,” Lyla said with her breasts practically on his face.

He stood up from his desk and walked around. “I will not tell you again; sleeping with you isn’t an option, and I’m not interested. I would like you to stop coming here. If your husband requires my business, he will call or visit. Otherwise, you are no longer welcome here.”

You could tell he was nervous. He was executing a significant step by stating those things to her because he didn’t know how she would react. I hoped she would get the message and leave but nope.

“Let’s make a deal. If you fuck me in your office right now, I won’t tell my husband that you have been trying to sleep with me since our first encounter. Believe me when I say, he will believe me over you any day. I wouldn’t push your luck. So, what’s it going to be?”

“Are you seriously fucking blackmailing me right now? You know that shit doesn’t work in real life, right? It always comes back to bite you in the ass,” Hudson said, standing his ground. He was not going to sleep with her even if she blackmailed him. He was not that type of man. She didn’t know him at all.

“Your choice but remember, I gave you a choice. When your world comes crumbling down, don’t act like I didn’t warn you. Have a good day, Hudson,” Lyla said as she strutted out of his office. I did have just enough time to save the video before she walked out to give me a go-to-hell-bitch look and got in the elevator. I followed her but didn’t quite make it to the elevator to ride down with her. When I made it to the bottom floor, I yelled, “Lyla, wait!”

She turned around like I was keeping her from something important, even though the only appointment she probably had was getting her lips injected. “Did you want to make an appointment for next time?”

“No, I won’t be coming back. Neither will my husband. This business is no longer what we are looking for. You will be receiving a call from my husband shortly to end the contract.”

I laughed. “I would rethink that. I’ve got something to show you before you do.”

I took out my phone and played the video. While watching, Lyla’s jaw dropped. I guess she didn’t think I could hear everything being said. When the video was over, she just stood there and looked at me.

“Do you not have anything to say?” I said, laughing. “You have been caught red-handed. If you don’t want me to send this video to your husband, then you will leave Hudson alone and stop interfering with his business with your husband. He doesn’t want to sleep with a nasty bitch like you. He can do a hundred times better.”

I didn’t even wait for her response. I just walked off all smiles and giggles. I think she got the point. Hudson shouldn’t have to worry about her after today.

Chapter 19

Hudson

Chris and a couple of others agreed to help me repair the deck on my parents’ house. I stupidly promised beer and food in exchange for their help. I have since realized these boys can put food and beer away.

My sister was out with Laurel. I couldn’t say I didn’t like the fact they get along because it was nice that my whole family loved Laurel, even before we started dating. As far as us, she was impressive. I couldn’t believe I was going to try and fire her, but I was very glad I didn’t. If so, we would have never developed this relationship. She opened my eyes to what I deserved in this world. I didn’t know why I had been so frightened of it. The preceding three weeks had been the best in years. It was nice having someone to come home to at night, to laugh, smile, and just blow off steam with. Although she was so much more than just that. She believed in me, forced me to be a more authentic version of myself, something no woman had ever done. She never ceased to astonish me.

Laurel: We are at the mall. Check out the pic.

A picture came through of a lace nightie. Boy, was I excited to see that on her. It wasn’t just about her body but her mind. The whole package made her stunning. When I looked at her, it was sad to say I was jealous of just how open she was. She didn’t hold things back. She was a tell-you-how-it-is type of girl, which I needed. She wasn’t fearful to put me in my place if need be. Believe me, she did it plenty.
