Me: =)

Laurel: So I’m on my way back to you. And we need to talk. I just had a great idea. Tell the boys to go home and get showered and report back to you in an hour.

I enjoyed it when she got bossy. It used to drive me nuts, but now it was kind of a turn on. I loved when she took charge of a situation. Although, I was wondering what her great idea might be. I relayed the message to the guys, and they were almost out the door before I could even finish. “Be back in an hour,” I yelled out to them, hoping they heard me.

I ran upstairs to take a shower myself because I was sure this body stunk. It had been a while since I’d done hard physical labor like this. I missed it. I worked out, but it was nothing like manual labor. Today completely wiped me out.

I turned on the water as I got undressed. Once I got in, the water hit my skin like bullets. My muscles were already sore, so I couldn’t imagine what I was going to feel like in the morning. I ran my fingers through my hair with shampoo and then lathered myself up with soap before rinsing it all off. Right before I finished, the shower door slid open, and Laurel joined me.

“Hi, baby, I’ve missed you today,” I said, giving her a sweet kiss.

She just smiled and helped me with the rest of the soap. We shifted positions, so she could wash herself too, but I liked to help. Any excuse to touch her was fine with me. I ran my hands over her back and worked my way to the front from behind her. I grabbed her breasts and fondled them for a bit. I needed to have a little fun too.

“Not right now, baby. If you are a good boy, maybe later. We have to get cleaned up and prepare,” she replied.

Prepare? Prepare for what? I knew exactly what her plan was, and I couldn’t say I was fond of it. My muscles were sore, and I just wanted to put on some lounge pants and relax. She had another thing in mind entirely. Laurel was like that. She loved to have people over and socialize. It didn’t make me as uncomfortable as it used to. I’d gotten better at it, but I was still not as excited about having company as she was.

“A party? Are we having a party?” I asked, sounding a little bit upset, but I was. It was hard to hide it when we were in this tight space together.

She captured my face and jerked me close. “Yes, but not a crazy one. I figured we could do a bonfire and relax by the fire. You can put on your lounge pants if you want. I stopped by your apartment and grabbed some for you.”

Holy fuck, she knew me so well. At least I could be more relaxed. I couldn’t be mad at her. We got out of the shower and prepared for our guests. She started unloading all of the groceries. This woman knew how to feed people. Chips, hot dogs, burgers, beer, wine, chocolate, marshmallows, and of course graham crackers. She was still unloading it onto the counter. My eyes grew wide because I was wondering how many people were coming. Laurel had enough food to feed thirty people, if not more.

“Babe, exactly how many people do you have coming tonight?” I asked as she continued to unload stuff.

She twirled her head around and said, “As many that will come.”

She was probably dead serious. That made me scared. I was okay with people I knew but newcomers not so much. At least, I still had some time to prepare for it. It had only been close to half an hour. “Are you sure we don’t have enough time?” I said, pulling her close to me. She knew exactly what I was talking about.

“Believe me, the wait won’t be disappointing. I have a surprise for you when we get home,” she said as she pushed me away. “Go start the grill so it’s ready when everyone gets here. I’ll start preparing the other stuff. Tonight is going to be fun, I promise.”

The fact was I believed her. I had already said multiple times that she knew me well. I didn’t think she would intentionally put me in an uncomfortable position. That led me to believe that only people that I knew would be coming tonight. The sigh of relief must have been loud because she turned around and scoffed.Calm down, crazy.

Chapter 20

Laurel

When everyone started to arrive, Hudson began to greet people and put on a good show. So good, I couldn’t tell if it was genuine or not. Progressively, people started showing up. We had a whole crew of people here. I kept it to people he already knew so he could enjoy himself without feeling so awkward. I was not so evil.

Lacey came in and gave me a big hug. I hadn’t seen her in a while since school had been her top priority, and I was glad she could come tonight. Chris showed up as well as Jeremy, Andrew, Christina, and Kassie. I stuck with family and friends. Our tight-knit circle always had a good time. We didn’t bicker and fight like most adults do when they have a party. We laughed and enjoyed our relaxation time.

Chris was one that always tried to be a gentleman. He didn’t like the fact that I was cooking on the grill. “Nah, let me take care of that. You go sit down next to your man. He missed you today.”

I laughed because I knew it was true but even more so because he couldn’t keep it to himself. He had blossomed immensely over the last month with us around.

I listened to Chris and sat down next to Hudson. I threw his arm over my shoulders and smiled. “Are you having fun?”

I could tell he was hesitant to answer, but I knew the truth. Hudson had one of those smiles on his face, the kind you just can’t fake, and it had been there for about an hour now. I didn’t need a verbal answer from him. I already knew.

Christina and I went inside to finish preparing all the sides and found Jeremy trying to sneak food. Evil little shit.

“You better put that down and wait for everyone else,” I said in the sternest voice I could. Hopefully, I scared him a little because he put the food down and went outside with the others.

Once all the sides were finished, we set up a long, white table to put the food on. Hudson nuzzled his face into my hair.

“You are disgusting. Get a room!” Kassie shouted.

Something caught my eye. Lacey and Leo were extremely close, sitting next to each other, laughing and smiling. What was going on with them? Had they been hanging out?
