“I’m ready to finally tell you what happened.”

He laid down on the couch, and I rested my hand on his chest. “Are you sure?”

“I got a phone call from my mom and it was just screaming. When I walked in the house, my dad was standing over her just hitting her in the face repeatedly. I demanded him to stop, and he wouldn’t.” Sebastian’s knuckles turned white. “He was intoxicated. He always hid his gun in the same place, so I went into his room and got it out of the safe and asked him again to stop while pointing the gun at him. He said I wouldn’t do it. So, I closed my eyes and shot him right in the chest.”

Chapter 23

Camilla

It’s been a coupledays since I last saw Sebastian, and I knew he was working long hours. He needed some space and I gave it to him out of respect. He’s been through a lot in the past week between finding out his mom had cancer again, to having to kill his own father to protect her. No one could help take that burden off his chest. Even though he hated his father, it still ate at him that he took someone’s life.

His ringtone went off and a smile swept across my face. “Hey stranger.”

“Having dinner with my mom in an hour. U free?”

I wasn’t exactly dressed for dinner with his mom, but oh well.“Address please?”

When I pulled up to Sebastian’s house, he was waiting for me on the porch.

He greeted me, “Hello gorgeous.” He took my hand and led me inside, his mother was sitting on the couch watching TV.

She smiled,” Welcome, Camilla. Please have a seat. It will be a while until dinner is done.” She said, gesturing towards the chair next to her.

“How’s the treatment going?” I finally asked her, to pierce the silence.

“I’ve been better. My condition keeps me in the house all the time. I wish I could go outside and enjoy some fresh air. I miss the way the breeze feels on my skin.”

I went into the kitchen and grabbed two chairs and placed them on the porch. I helped Sebastian’s mom off the couch and outside into one of the chairs. Her face lit up instantly. We sat outside talking and laughing while she enjoyed the fresh air for the first time in a couple of weeks. After about half an hour, Sebastian came and got us for dinner.

We sat down, and Sebastian’s mom commented on me.

“Sebastian, I think Camilla is amazing. Make sure you treat her like a queen. She deserves it. She’s good for you. Don’t let her go.”

It meant a lot that his mom liked me. Not getting along with the future mother in law could pose a big problem for a marriage. So glad that wasn’t a hurdle I had to jump.

“So, are you ready for the wedding tomorrow?” He asked.
