Chapter 29

Sebastian

All I wanted to dowas give her everything she wanted. I’d always been good with saving money, so we didn’t have to skimp on any wedding essentials. Whatever her dream wedding was, she was going to get it down to a T.

It was getting closer to the wedding day and everyone kept telling me nerves were going to start setting in but so far only excitement.. I’ve waited a very long time to finally get my shot with Camilla and it’s finally here. I was going to spend the rest of my life with her as my wife. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Jonathan showed up to get our tuxedos fitted for the wedding, and to make sure they fill perfectly. The bride wasn’t the only one that wanted to look their best. Our wedding photos would be looked at, hung up, and cherished for the rest of our days and by our future kids.

“So, how ya feeling? Any nerves yet?”

“None whatsoever actually. Everyone keeps asking me that.” I answered.

“Well, that’s good. You guys were made for each other, so no worries. Only two more days.”

“Then she will be Mrs. Ridgway forever.”

The tuxedos fit perfectly so it was over within fifteen minutes and I had nothing else to do for the wedding. All I could do at this point was keep Camilla calm and not worrying about the big day. Abigail’s been great at taking care of everything. She handled the flowers, DJ, Food, and cake.

When I got home and checked the mail, I had another letter forDoctors Without Borders. At this point, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go back and leave Camilla behind.

Dear Mr. Ridway,

We are writing to you to see if you have considered the trip back to Africa for twelve weeks. Please let us know your decision at your earliest convenience. The date for you to arrive would be August 31st and you would return November 31st.

Thanks,

Doctors Without Borders

That’s only two weeks away. I wanted to talk to Camilla about it before making a final decision but not right before our wedding. The last thing I wanted to do was scare her away.

“Honey, I’m home.” Camilla yelled, setting her purse on the kitchen counter.

“I’m in the living room, baby.”

It was a conversation we needed to have, and even though it wasn’t the best timing, here it goes.

“Look what I got today.” I said, handing her the letter.

She looked it over and then her eyes darted at me, “so have you made your decision?”

“It’s a decision we need to make together. Don’t you think?”

She smiled and put her hand on mine, “well of course, but it’s ultimately up to you honey. Do you have concerns?”

“I don’t want you to have to uproot your life, but I also don’t want you to feel obligated to go with me. Three months is a long time to be away from you especially right after getting married.” The only thing I could do was be honest about how I was feeling and the concerns I had. She made partner at a great firm and who knew if she would be able to take a three month leave of absence.

“If you decide to go, I’m going. I’ve already talked to the other partners ahead of time and told them about the opportunity you were presented. Don’t worry about me. This is a huge honor.”

Truly, I wanted to go. It’s too hard to turn the opportunity down. I would love Camilla to come and learn more about the culture over there. It looks like my decision had been made.
