“Tina! Shut up, there are kids.”

She laughs, and scoots her sunglasses from the top of her head over her eyes to hide the fact she is obviously staring at him.

“Come in, mommy.”

I shake my head, and Brodie gets out and practically drags me. “The kids have spoken.”

He doesn’t even give me time to take off my dress before I’m under water. It can’t be flattering how the dress is stuck to my body when I come to the surface.

“Seriously, what is wrong with you?” I ask, wiping the water off my face.

He starts laughing and splashing me with water. “Live a little. Have some fun. It won’t kill ya.”

That’s when the fight begins, the girls and I start splashing him non-stop, and everyone laughs. He’s right. I’ve been wound up so tight, that I’ve forgotten how to have fun.

“Oh, you’re in trouble now,” he says, slinging me over his shoulder and then dunking me underwater again. “That’ll teach you to mess with the Grill King.”

When his hand touches my ass, I think he might move it, but it stays and he dunks me again. His grip is tolerable, and thank god he doesn’t catch my grin.

Tina is enjoying herself from the sidelines, her sunglasses on the edge of her nose, smiling. Oh, god. She’s not going to shut up about this once everyone leaves. I try to get her to come in, but she refuses, so I get out and sit back next to her, and leave Brodie in there with the kids.

“Girl, he’s perfect. Good with kids and smoking hot. Why you are so against it? You can’t tell me you don’t think about how nice it would feel to have those arms around you?”

“Nope, never.”

“Bullshit, I’m thinking about it right now. I’m married, but you aren’t. Have some fun.”

Tina is never going to stop pushing me, but at the same time, I don’t want to do something I will regret.

Brodie gets out of the pool, rips off his t-shirt, while Tina and I gawk over him. I want to run my hands down his chiseled chest, and around his muscular shoulders.

“So, what are you ladies talking about over here?” he asks, taking a seat and drying off.

Tina glances his way, smiles and replies, “How cute you are. You are single, right?”

He hesitates for a second. “Unfortunately. Girls only want the guys that just want to string them along, so I’m over it.”

Interesting. Is he being genuine or putting on a show?

“So, you don’t string girls along?” Tina asks.

“I might not have the best example of relationships from my parents, but I would consider myself a good guy. I don’t believe in wasting time. If I like someone, then I’m all in.”

Tina glances over at me, and nudges my shoulder.

“Do you think Vanessa is attractive? Just wondering why you haven’t asked her out yet?”

I jump out of my chair, and put my hand on my hip. “Stop trying to set me up. Don’t answer that.”

“Of course, she is, but it’s clear she isn’t interested.”

Brodie’s eyes linger on mine, and it makes my stomach flutter. Why am I so opposed to letting this gorgeous man take me out on a date? Oh yeah, because I’ve been single for less than a week.

“Brodie, don’t mind Tina. She just wants me to find someone, but I’m not ready to date anyone right now. It’s not you.”

He shakes his head. “That’s what they all say.”

Brodie walks off, and asks the girls to get out of the pool since six is approaching. Their parents will be coming shortly to pick them all up and they haven’t even had any of the cookies. My island is covered in junk food and I don’t have enough room to store it.
