“Oh fuck!”
Apparently, we wore ourselves out last night and ended up falling asleep. She grabs her phone from her clutch, and answers.
“Hello?”
Her voice isn’t loud enough for me to decipher her words.
“I’m on my way.”
She hangs up the phone, and starts crawling around picking up her dress and bra.
“Are you in trouble? I didn’t expect us to fall asleep.”
She shakes her head. “No, but now Sherrie is going to ask questions. We have to be more careful next time.”
So, she plans on there being a next time? A smile reaches my ears, and I stretch out on the couch.
“You should really put some clothes on. I can’t be distracted,” she says, throwing my pants at me.
She clasps her bra, and then pulls on her dress over her head. I pull my pants back on, and then go to my closet to grab a different t-shirt. “Last night was amazing. If you would still like to see me, I’m game.”
Vanessa isn’t as innocent as she might portray, and I like a little kink in the bedroom. Vanilla sex is nice, but it’s predictable and sometimes it lacks passion. I want to hear Vanessa beg me for more, to go harder, to fuck her.
“We’ll talk about this later. Can you take me home? I’ve got to shower and change to get her to school in like thirty-minutes.”
Okay, so maybe I shouldn’t have kept her out all night, but I don’t regret it for a second. If she wasn’t in such a hurry, I would surprise her with a quickie before I take her home, but that’s out of the question. Bummer.
I grab my keys, and follow her out to the truck where she gets in and doesn’t say a word for the three blocks to her house. Tina waves at me through the living room window.
“You are entitled to have a little fun. See you at practice.”
She walks up to the front door and slips inside.
When I get back to the house, I glance across the living room and daydream about last night. Sex is a natural thing, and I refuse to be embarrassed about it. I might not sleep around, but when I’m with someone I like, it’s easy to show them. Vanessa has proven that it is more than just an attraction between us, and even so, if this does work out, our sex life is going to be healthy. How does she feel about exploring? Without knowledge of her past relationships, she is a closed book, but I don’t like to get bored. Is she willing to try new things? I’ll add this to my mental list of things to talk to her about later.
After taking a shower, I grab my bag and head to the station. Jeremy and Damon are already pulling equipment out, and the chief is watching them.
“Hey, bro. How was your day off yesterday?” Damon asks.
“Perfect.”
Damon squints at me, and then starts following me into the locker room. “Perfect, huh? Did you finally find a girl? You have a cheesy smile on your face.”
Damnit. She doesn’t want me to tell anyone. So, I need to respect her privacy and keep it to myself. Otherwise, I would be shouting it from the rooftops. Normally, I’m not really one for secret relationships or hook-ups, but Vanessa’s situation is tricky. I need to be understanding toward her situation.
“I did, but it’s still new. Don’t wanna jinx it.”
Some of them make fun of me for not just going out and finding a woman to scratch the itch. They might be okay with sleeping with random strangers, but I’m not. First of all, I’m not a fan of catching sexually transmitted diseases. Sleeping around will ruin your life. Plus, it just doesn’t compare to being with someone you have feelings for. When there is a deeper attraction there, it makes it more passionate and that’s what fuels my fire. Vanessa and I have things in common even going back to our childhoods, and she is able to relate to the issues I am facing with my parents. Even when it comes to relationships, we see eye to eye on almost everything, which means this could be the girl of my dreams. I’m not saying I love her or anything, but there is a reason she has been brought into my life, and if she wants us to play a secret game until she’s ready, I’ll happily oblige.
Damon just stares at me as I put my bag into my locker, and I close it. “Seriously. Let’s get to work. Chief doesn’t like us standing around idle when there are things to do.”
If we stand around, he is going to start asking questions, and I’m not a good liar. If he asks about Vanessa, then he is going to know. She will kill me, so I walk out of the locker room, and into the bay.
While I’m doing inspections, Vanessa is clearly on my mind. I’ve been wanting to settle down and have a family for a couple years, and then this crazy woman walks into my life and puts me on my ass. She has admitted she likes me, but doesn’t want to jump in head first. After everything that happened with her ex, it’s understandable that she wants to take her time and see if this could work, and I’m all for that. I just wonder if she is going to lead me on and then dump me? I don’t want to get my heart broken, so I need to keep my walls up, and protect myself. It’s the smart thing to do.
As much as I want to just open my heart fully, it’s difficult when the other person guards their heart. No matter the reason for it. I have to spend more time with Vanessa. As long as she stays honest with me, then this will work out.
I pull out my phone and text her.
