“Now, I’m going to have to deal with Lee. This is why I didn’t want to go out with him.”

Tina is my best friend, but sometimes she truly doesn’t think things through before she opens her mouth, and this time it’s going to bite me in the ass. Lee didn’t need to know about last night, and now it’s going to make things awkward.

Lee: Wow. Ten years and you are already seeing someone? I guess I’m just shocked. Guess things were even worse between us than I thought.

Is he acting like things weren’t bad between us? Why is he even saying this shit right now? We haven’t been in love for years, and I refuse to feel bad for enjoying myself. I’m free of him, and if I want to see someone, then it’s my prerogative.

“I think Brodie is just what you needed. Even if it was just sex. You are glowing today.”

I don’t want to talk to Lee about it anymore right now.

Tina’s final appointment walks through the door, and she has been coming here for years. She’s very open about her life, and she treats Tina like a therapist sometimes. Always complaining about her problems.

“My hair is a mess. Fix me!” Denise says, sitting in Tina’s chair.

I’ve never really liked her. She loves drama, and I try to stay far from it. The last time she was here, all she talked about was her ex-boyfriend, who she left because he didn’t make enough money to support her lifestyle. Why is it his problem to support her lifestyle? Get a job and support yourself. Girls like her give us a bad name. It truly pisses me off when she speaks. She always leaves Tina a good tip so she sits there and listens to her gripe and tells her stories.

“Girl, I have to tell you about a date I went on last week.”

Tina obliges, and stops. “Come on. Give me the dirt.”

She goes on to tell her that the guy shows up late, and then he ditches her before they were even able to order drinks. She sat there for almost thirty-minutes waiting for him to come back before she left.

“Can you fucking believe it? I’m a catch and he just left? Why are guys such assholes?”

Tina gives her some speech about how nice guys are hard to find, and that she will find her perfect match someday and to be patient. Denise doesn’t take it to heart.

“I think I want to go up to the fire station and give him a piece of my mind. Is that crazy?”

Tina nods, and goes back to cutting her hair.

Does Brodie work with the guy Denise went out with?

“What was his name? The guy I’m seeing works there, too.”

“Brodie. Tell the girls to stay far away from him. He’s hot but an ass.”

Holy shit. She went out with Brodie? I can’t imagine him going out with someone like her. He said Tristan made him do some online dating, and it didn’t work out for him. I never expected to run into someone he went out with at work.

“Did he give off any vibes that he wasn’t interested in you?”

Asking her questions about it might be bitchy and Tina keeps peering at me. She is probably wondering why I’m asking her about it and is wanting me to stop.

“I mean, my friend kept texting me. We didn’t even really get to have a conversation.”

My head shakes, and I finish cleaning up my station. I can’t be mad that Brodie went out with someone else. He has been up-front with me about things this far, and it’s not like he is purposely hiding that he has gone on dates with other women. He’s an attractive man.

“See you later, Tina. You coming over tonight?” I ask, grabbing my purse before heading to the school.

“See you around six-thirty. You going to see boy toy tonight?” she asks, winking.

“Maybe.”

I walk out the door, and get into the car before saying anything else. A part of me wants to bring this up to Brodie, but then again, does it make me look jealous? I don’t want him to think I’m crazy or anything? I back out of my parking spot and head down the street to pick up Sherrie.

When I arrive at the school, the pick-up line has died down, and Sherrie is waiting by the curb and a smile displays when I pull up. She gets into the car, and I take off toward the house. I hope she doesn’t bring up me being gone last night. She isn’t ready to hear that I’m seeing someone. Will people judge us if they find out? The moms will probably have a field day, but they will be jealous.

“How was school, honey?” I ask, grabbing her backpack off the set, and shutting the car door behind her.
