Advanced notice would have made this situation a lot easier for both of us. Vanessa is too important to me to just cancel on her, good excuse or not.

I’m running out of time, and the odor from being out in the sun is getting worse. So, I leave her in the living room while I take a shower. The warm water drifts over my pecks, and down my body, soothing my aching muscles. My loofah lathers me up with body wash and the water washes it away. After turning the water off, I wrap the towel around my torso, and head to the closet. LA VI is more fancy than where I normally go so I choose the blue striped button-up and some black slacks.

When I step back into the living room, she is watching tv. I use the towel to dry my hair, and sit down with her.

“Listen, I gotta leave. Do you want to come back in the morning? We can go to breakfast before you leave?”

She rolls her eyes. “I wouldn’t have wasted my time coming if I knew you weren’t going to be free. You’re right. Next time I’ll call you.”

Without hesitation, she gets off the couch and walks out my front door.

I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and let her leave. There is no reason for me to feel bad for this. She didn’t call, end of the story.

There is no time to waste, so I slip on my dress shoes, grab my keys and head out of the door. The truck starts up, and I mosey over a couple of blocks to her driveway. Tina’s car is there and I should’ve expected her to be present. She has a way of planting herself in people’s business.

I sit in my car for a couple minutes, giving her time to finish getting ready, because she doesn’t appear to be in the living room. Tina isn’t someone I want to sit around and have a conversation with, and not in a rude way, but she likes to meddle. She has made that crystal clear from the start. I don’t want her getting into my business, so I’ll steer clear of any opportunity of being alone with her for a conversation to spark.

Tina comes to the windows and sees me. He hands waves to me. Guess it’s time to knock now. Hopefully, Vanessa is almost ready to go.

“She’s almost ready. I heard the girls won today. Good job, coach.”

I nod, trying to keep the conversation short and to the point without being rude. “They did all the work.”

Tina goes back into the bedroom, and I remain in the living room, waiting on Vanessa. It’s normal for women to take longer to get ready and I’ve learned you always make the reservation for thirty- minutes after you are supposed to arrive.

The bedroom door opens and she steps out in a floor length red dress, with a slit up the side to her mid-thigh.Fuck. How am I supposed to not stare at her magnificent body? She’s bringing her A game, because now all I’m going to be thinking about during dinner is what I’m going to do to her later on in my bed.

“Let’s just go to my house. We don’t need dinner, do we?” I say, and then grin. “Just kidding, you look gorgeous though. I like you in red.”

She says goodbye to Tina, and we walk to my truck, and I hold the door open for her.

Vanessa has me wanting to skip the romantic candlelit dinner and go straight to dessert. As much as I want to, this is a special night, and my stomach is already growling. This doesn’t stop me from imagining myself between her legs, dress still on, but with no panties. The things this woman does to me.

The slit in her dress is riding up, enough for me to know that she is not wearing any underwear, and that just forces my dick to jump. Her hair is in curls falling against her back, and it’s the first time I’ve seen her with a face of makeup.

I keep my eye on the road, but lay my right hand on her exposed thigh and her breathing hitches. She has no idea what she has in store for her later. Things are going to get hot and heavy. She did great with the silk ties, so maybe we can kick it up a notch, if she’ll let me.

The truck pulls into the parking lot, and I hop out to open her door, extending my hand. Once she is on solid ground, I touch my palm to the small of her back as we walk to the door and go inside.

“Reservation for Brodie Hill,” I say to the receptionist.

“Right this way.”

We follow her to the corner of the restaurant, and the dim lighting sets a romantic vibe. Once she shows up to our table, there are candles lit, and a bottle of wine chilling in ice for us.

“Well, I wasn’t expecting this. Wine and candles? The whole shebang,” Vanessa says.

I would like to take credit, but this is all the restaurant’s doing. They must put a bottle of wine for all their guests to encourage them to open it. It puts the man on the spot, but in the back of my mind, the bottle could cost hundreds of dollars. I never splurge, so what the hell, I open the wine, and pour it into the glasses sitting in front of us.

“To us and our future together,” Vanessa says, clinking hers to mine.

The fact that she sees a future with me is wonderful, and I hope this works out. The pull to her is magnetic and I don’t want to start over. Vanessa needs to be my happily ever after.

She takes a sip, and then smiles. “I have been looking forward to this all day. I’ve been on a high. Still can’t believe we won today. Sherrie was so excited.”

An inkling of me doesn’t want to hear about Lee, but it comes with the territory. He isn’t going to push me out of their lives, but he will try. It’s inevitable. The only reason he would act that way is if he still has feelings for Vanessa. Why he let her get away is beside me, but I’m not dumb enough to let her out of my sight.

The waitress comes over and we pick up the menus. I’ve been lost at looking at her, there’s been no time to look it over.
