The crowd on the field is now starting to dwindle down, and Sherrie runs over to pack up her equipment. When she sees the ring on her mom’s finger, her eyes get big, and look over at me.
“You finally did it? I can’t believe it!”
She hugs her mother first, then me. “Thank you for making her so happy.”
It might have taken a while for her to get used to the idea of her mother dating me, or anybody, but it was my job to show her that I made her mom happy. Sherrie wasn’t oblivious to the issues her parents faced while together.
“I say we go to the diner and celebrate. Breakfast for dinner sounds amazing right now,” Vanessa says, not taking her eyes off the ring.
Honestly, it feels like my life has just come together so nicely since Vanessa made her appearance. Sure, it was rocky at first, but anything worth a damn doesn’t come easily. The wait was horrendous but now I have her by my side, and she will be my wife. I’ll spend every day showing her how amazing she is, and comforting her through all the trials and tribulations that come with life.
My life is now complete…
