Reluctantly, I finished washing up and turned off the water. I didn’t have a plan for what I was going to do next, but the last time I’d had a plan, it had failed spectacularly. Maybe things went better for me when I followed my instincts and didn’t overthink everything.

I dried off and walked over to the closet, hoping I’d find something to wear. To my surprise, it was stocked with several varieties and sizes of pajamas. I supposed that made sense for a guest room. I found a pair of flannel pants and a button up shirt and put them on. If I had to return to the party, I’d look pretty strange, but I was hoping I could hide out here the rest of the night.

A knock sounded on the door and I quickly finished buttoning my top before heading over to it. Opening the door a crack, I peeked out.

James filled the whole opening. “You have a visitor, your highness.”

I winced at the title, but he’d warned me he’d use it in front of others. I opened the door wider, expecting to see Spencer or Star. Instead, I was greeted by the exact person I wanted to see more than anyone else.

“Do I need to bow?” Alec asked.

I smiled and laughed. “That depends. Does the king have to bow to the queen?”

Alec lifted a brow. “Are you proposing to me?”

I shrugged. “Not yet. But there are other things I’d like to do with you.”

James cleared his throat.

My eyes widened. I forgot he was there. I grabbed Alec’s shirt and pulled him into the room. Someone, probably James, closed the door for us.

“How the fuck did you come here with the plan to help steal a crown and end up taking the crown for yourself?” Alec asked.

“It’s been a wild night,” I said.

“I heard. Malcom filled us in.” He slid his arm around my waist and pulled me close. “You are such a badass.”

“You’re not intimidated, are you?” I teased.

“I’m turned on,” he admitted.

“Good, cause I have plans for you.” I stood on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to his.

He pulled away. “Wait.”

I stepped away from his embrace and crossed my arms over my chest, hurt. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment. How had I read all those signals wrong?

“Before we go any further, I want you to be sure. Once we do this, the bond will be complete,” he said.

Flutters filled my chest and the concern eased. He was giving me one last chance to turn him down. I could overthink this for the rest of my life, or I could let my instincts take control.

Every piece of me was desperate to feel his touch. My wolf was practically begging me to pull his clothes off right now. My instincts had no doubts. Alec was my true mate. The one I was meant to have.

“I’ve never been more sure about anything,” I said.
