Raven

I wason pins and needles my whole last period class. My idea was insane and I wasn’t even sure if it would work. But it was the only one I had. If there was a chance Professor Halifax knew what was in that book, I had to find out. What if she could help me destroy it? Or send the shadow fae away?

I knew Luka was in a conjuring class last period and I had a general sense of where it was so as soon as the bell rang, I beelined it to his classroom. If I had a choice, I’d do this myself but I couldn’t dreamwalk. Even if I could, my magic was still weak from the confinement room.

The hallway was teeming with happy people. The day was over and it was finally time to hang out with friends and socialize. Pockets of students were gathered in the middle of the hall or against walls. I swerved around them, glaring at them for slowing me down. Usually, I didn’t mind what other people did but today, it really pissed me off. Luka was probably heading straight to the cafeteria to find me but I had to catch him first.

His classroom door was closed and I didn’t see anyone milling about. My heart sank. I was too late. Shoulders slumped, I walked toward it just in case. The door swung open, nearly hitting me. I jumped out of the way as the class filed out. They got out late which meant something was going right for a change.

I waited off to the side, watching for Luka. He walked out of the room with his usual swagger and a grin on his face. His blonde hair was perfectly tousled and he cut quite the figure in his white button down shirt and fitted black slacks. If it weren’t for the other things we had to do, I’d drag him right to my bedroom.

“Luka,” I called.

His eyes found mine and it sent a charge through me. How he could get me going with one look, I’d never know. But it worked every time. It was either the incubus in him or it was our bond. Either way, he made my whole body feel hot.

“Hey, kitten,” he said as he walked over to me. “What a nice surprise. I was worried

about you with those rumors going around, but you look okay.”

“I’m fine,” I said.

“Good,” he said grabbing me and pulling me in for a kiss.

My lips felt hot against his and I leaned into the kiss, savoring his smoke and leather scent. After the day I had, Luka was like instant relief for my tension. His hand moved to my lower back and then slipped down to my ass. He squeezed it as he deepened the kiss.

Someone whistled as they passed us and it broke me from the temporary trance he’d caused. I pulled away from the kiss. “I needed that.”

“Should we go somewhere and finish?” he asked, a mischievous glint in his eye.

I groaned. My body wanted to but I knew I couldn’t fully relax till this fae thing was under control. “I need a favor.”

“Anything, kitten,” he said, lifting his eyebrows.

“Not that kind of favor,” I said, wishing it was. “Can we talk in my room?”

“Lead the way,” he said.

The halls were less crowded than they had been as we made our way to the dungeons. Luka stayed behind me, but I could feel his body heat as we walked. He was just as interested in doing other things as I was, that was for sure.

When we reached the common room, I winced and then quickly tried to cover my expression. Ben was sitting on the couch looking toward the stairs. He stood when he saw me. “I’ve been so worried.”

While I was relieved to see him and find out that he was safe, I wasn’t looking forward to kicking him out so Luka and I could do what needed done. I walked toward him and he met me in an embrace. His strong arms felt safe and comforting.

“I’m okay,” I said as I pulled away from the hug. “I was only in there for a couple of hours.”

“I should kill her for getting you sent there,” he said with a growl.

“Not necessary,” I said. “I think we actually worked everything out.”

“Oh?” he asked.

“Yeah, I have a feeling she won’t be bothering me anymore.”

He grinned. “I heard you had a hell of a right hook.”

I couldn’t help but smile. “Well, that’s not what made her back off, but I held my own.”
