Panic squeezes in around my chest. Whatever I just drank wasn’t good. I probably should have resisted better.

Whispers surround me, coming from all sides. The class squeezes in closer to me. All I can see is a sea of black and white uniforms.

“Who would like to volunteer to cast the spell?” Professor Lee asks.

A dozen hands shoot into the air.

“What?” My pulse rises. “I thought you were doing it.”

She shakes her head. “What kind of a teacher would I be if I didn’t give my students the opportunity for hands on learning?”

The hands around me are waving, everyone eager to try out the spell - whatever the spell is - on the new girl.

“Maybe today is your day to die, after all,” Professor Lee says.
