Damon

I knewthere was a new girl starting classes today, but I didn’t realize how insanely beautiful she’d be. There’s something about her that’s different from the other girls at the school.

Corbin, my twin, elbows me and subtlety lifts his chin toward her. I know he wants to check her out more closely and I have no objections to that.

We walk toward her desk and I stop in front of Elias, a lesser demon who is lucky he’s survived as long as he has. He’s visibly shaking just from my presence and doesn’t even wait for me to speak. He just jumps out of his chair like a frightened mouse and bolts.

I grin, taking his seat without remorse. Demons like him give the rest of us a bad name. There aren’t a lot of higher demons here. Most of them attend fancy schools topside. Our parents don’t believe in outsourcing education. At least that’s their words for keeping us here in the good old Underworld.

They both attended Brimstone and while they weren’t wealthy when they were students, they managed to create an empire after they graduated. My dad is spymaster to Prince Alastor Drake and my mom is one of the most sought after military strategists in the known realms. They’re wicked smart and probably more well connected than the Drake family.

I know I should worry that people do what I say because of who my parents are, but I just don’t care. The power their name brings is too addictive. I like being in charge. I like throwing my weight around. And I like intimidating people.

Besides, the new girl is probably the hottest girl I’ve ever seen here. She’s got long blonde hair and blue eyes. But that’s not even the best part. In that little skirt, her legs go on for days. I can almost feel her wrapping those legs around my waist and my cock twitches at the thought. It’s been a while since I’ve wanted a girl this much.

She’s staring at me with an intensity I can feel and I know she’s just as attracted to me as I am to her.

All too soon, Professor Lee calls for attention and I turn to face her. Last week I watched her dump a vial of a flesh eating potion on a student who wasn’t paying attention. He’d missed the spell to reverse the damage and ran from the room screaming. I haven’t seen him since.

While I want to stare at the new girl, I really don’t want to be caught in one of Professor Lee’s shows of power.

To my surprise, Corbin risks turning back to her, passing her a spell book. It’s a nice gesture and it tells me that he’s just as interested in fucking her as I am. So it’s going to be a competition, then. I grin, knowing I can take him. We might look alike, but I’m the better flirt.

Suddenly, a ball of fire flies through the air and Corbin jumps into the air to catch it. He extinguishes it quickly but new girl is already on the ground, her desk on top of her.

I hop out of my seat to help her right her desk and she slides back in without even looking my way.

“Ms. Love, that was a warning,” Professor Lee says. “Talk during my class again and I’ll be forced to silence you, permanently. And I do not want to do that. If you die today, Mr. Hawthorne wins and I do not want that pandering asshat to winagain.”

We all stare straight ahead after that, though I do risk a few glances toward her. She looks fine for someone who just had a fireball thrown at them. It surprises me since the rumor was that she came from the human world.

Professor Lee drones on until she’s ready to move on with the new spell. It was homework to learn it and I’m guessing most of the class did the work since we’ve seen what happens when we fail.

The potion makes the person who drinks it susceptible to suggestion from the spell caster. It’s a dangerous and useful spell. Excellent for politics and negotiations. If you can get important people to bend to your will, there is nothing you can’t accomplish.

To my surprise, Professor Lee takes the vial to the new student. The fireball didn’t surprise me, but this does. It’s cruel, even for Professor Lee.

She looks smug as she offers the blue vial of potion to the new girl. Usually, I’m fine with things like this. It thins the crowd and reduces the competition for the pass to get out of this place.

Sure, I could wait till I graduated, but why would I want to stay here any longer than I have to?

Only, today, I’m not feeling like that. Today, I’m feeling a flicker of something unfamiliar. Concern, maybe? For a girl I don’t even know. It doesn’t make sense so I push it aside and watch as she tips the vial back into her mouth.

I swear my heart is beating a little faster as I watch the whole thing unfold. Really, I just wanted to check out the new girl up close.

“Who would like to volunteer to cast the spell?” Professor Lee asks.

A dozen hands shoot into the air.

“What?” The girl asks, sounding terrified. “I thought you were doing it.”

Professor Lee shakes her head. “What kind of a teacher would I be if I didn’t give my students the opportunity for hands on learning?”

My classmates are eager to test out the spell on the unknowing girl. My stomach twists uncomfortably and I notice that Corbin is shifting in his seat. He’s not on board with this either.

“Maybe today is your day to die, after all,” Professor Lee says.
