“Make her dance,” Em says loudly over the music.

My moment of enjoyment is over. I forgot she was with us.

Damon grins and I see the cocky asshole expression return. “Good idea, Em.”

“Go on,” Damon says. “You heard her. Dance.”

There’s no force behind his words and I’m surprised.

“Make her, Damon,” Em says.

Damon slides his hand down my side and then rests it on my hip. He turns toward me so our bodies are close together. My breath hitches as he pulls me closer to him. We’re nearly flush and I have to force myself not to lean into him. It doesn’t make any sense but all I want to do is get closer to him. I want to run my fingers through his hair. I want to taste his kiss. I want to slide my hands under his shirt.

Damon slides his other hand on my hip so he’s holding me on both sides. Tingles spread through my core as he moves my hips gently so I’m swaying side to side. “Dance.”

I can read between the lines. We’re putting on a show. I throw my arms over his shoulders and press myself against him. Our bodies move in time together, dancing in rhythm to the pounding music.

When I glance at Em, I can’t help but smile. She’s watching us with her arms crossed over her chest. She looks pissed. I don’t think this was what she had in mind.

I ignore her and turn my attention back to Damon, letting myself look into his blue eyes. There’s a flicker of something there that makes my heart jump. Despite our initial interactions, I feel like I’m being pulled to him.

It’s like there’s nobody else here. Just the two of us, our bodies pressed together. I’m nearly breathless and my whole body feels more alive than it has in ages. Like my skin is on fire. I can’t explain it but I never want this dance to end.

Someone taps my shoulder and I turn to see Em with three glasses in her hand. She holds them up.

“Drinks,” she says.

Damon takes two of the glasses and passes one to me. He tosses it back, then Em does the same. I hesitate. I’m not a huge drinker. Don’t get me wrong, I drink on occasion. But I know I’m a lightweight and I’ve been warned enough to not take drinks from strangers. Especially not strangers with magic. Okay, I added that part, but it’s common sense.

Damon lifts the drink in my hand toward my mouth. I let him and then I knock it back.

Somehow, Em is standing there with another round. Then another. Then another.

I’ve lost track of how many drinks I’ve had but the room is fuzzy.

Damon grabs my hand and drags me to the middle of the crowd. He slides his palms under my shirt, his large hands sliding up my bare back.

The feel of his hands on my skin sends tingles down my spine and I lean into him, nearly gasping at how good he feels.

“Look at her,” a voice says. “How much did she drink?”

I blink and try to look around but I can’t focus on anything around me. It’s all one blur of sparkles and orange light and moving people. Nearby, someone is laughing.

Someone grabs a hold of my hand and drags me away from Damon. I whimper and reach for him, but he lets me go. Maybe he looks sad? I can’t tell. All I know is I’m dancing with someone else now. Then I’m passed to another person.

I can’t keep track of what’s happening and I stumble with each step. Em’s face appears in front of me and she grabs hold of my chin. “Look at you. You don’t belong here. You can’t even handle your booze. What a waste.”

I try to move away from her but I stumble and someone catches me. It’s a man I don’t recognize and I can’t focus on his face. It’s like there are two of him and they keep blurring together.

“Hey, Damon, can I keep her for a while? She looks fun,” he says as he moves me around.

I’m struggling to even control my movements. The stranger is moving my arms like I’m a rag doll and I can’t resist. Fear squeezes in on my chest and I try to break free but I’ve lost movement.

“Hey, I want a turn with the new girl,” someone says. I’m passed around, unable to control what I’m doing.

“Stop,” I think I say. But I’m not sure if the word came out or not.

“I heard she likes it rough,” Em says. “At least that’s what Tasha said she walked in on with the new girl in Liam’s room.”
