Professor Lee walks through the room, assigning everyone a partner before walking back to the front. “Ingredients are in the storage room. You all have one hour to create your potion. After the hour is up, each pair will test their spell with the potion in the hallway, one group at a time.”

“You didn’t tell us the potion we’re making or the spell we’re casting,” Em says.

“No, I didn’t,” Professor Lee agrees. She glances at her watch, staring at in silence for what feels like minutes.

“Darkness potion, void spell,” she says. “Go.”

Professor Lee walks to her desk and sits down in her chair. She stretches out her legs on top of the desk, looking rather pleased with herself.

The rest of the class is in chaos as everyone runs for the storage room at once. I stand there, watching the rushed movements of my classmates. If I delay us getting our ingredients, it’s possible we won’t have what we need. That would cost us our grade for sure.

Reluctantly, I turn to look at Damon and see that he’s just as calm as me. He’s not rushing toward the storage room and he doesn’t even look the least bit concerned.

He smiles at me and cocks an eyebrow. “You know, I think today is my lucky day.”

“Why’s that?” I ask.

“I get to spend the next hour showing you that I’m not a complete asshole.”

I scoff. “You’d need a lot more than an hour, I’m guessing.”

“Maybe,” he says. “I think you’ll come around to me. I’m not worried.”

I press my lips together, not trusting myself to say something I won’t regret. There’s something attractive about his cool attitude and I hate myself for finding him even the slightest bit appealing.

“Shall we?” He bends his elbow as if he wants me to slide my arm through his.

My brows knit together and I shake my head. There’s no way I’m prancing around the classroom with him arm in arm.

When I look around the room, our classmates have returned to their desks. With a sigh, I walk toward the storage room, knowing he’ll follow me.

The only bad thing about waiting for the mass chaos to leave the room is the fact that the two of us are alone in the huge, dark storage room.

It’s nearly the size of the classroom itself with rows and rows of shelves. There are glass vials and tubes, pots of herbs and tubs of sticks. Jars of floating eyeballs stare at me as I walk by and I shudder as I hurry to get past them.

The worst part of this storage room is that there seems to be no method of organization. So you wander the shelves until you find what you need.

I see a bunch of dried herbs that look like the nightshade we need and grab them. When I turn back around, Damon is in front of me, an arm on either side of me blocking me in.

“Damon, get out of the way,” I say.

“Not until you admit that you enjoyed yourself last night,” he says.

“Of course I did,” I admit, “I thought I was with your brother.”

“No, you knew who I was the whole time,” he says.

“If I knew it was you, I never would have kissed you,” I say.

“Liar,” he says as he leans closer to me. His warm breath is on my cheeks and his lips hover above mine.

Heat spreads low in my belly and I can feel wetness between my legs. Fuck. I don’t want to be turned on by him but my body is reacting even if my mind is telling me to stop.

“You can’t deny the pull between us. Even now, I can smell your arousal.”

I wrinkle my nose at his comment but I can’t deny his words. As much as I want to push him away from me, there’s too much of me that is crying out for more.

His tongue darts out and he licks my lower lip. I gasp, both startled and excited.
