I wanted to punch him through the phone. There was something so condescending about his tone. How did he even know we were going to cast a spell in the first place? “Who says it didn’t work?”

“I can’t explain on the phone. Meet me at your friend’s mortuary in an hour,” he said. “Come alone.”

Quickly, I dialed Heidi’s phone. I needed answers and there was no way in hell I was going to meet David alone. The phone rang once, then it died. Battery gone.

I looked up to see both Elias and Xander walking back to the car. Shelly’s door was closed and the assassin wasn’t on the front steps. Well, at least that was one problem tied up. For now.
Xander slid into the seat next to me and Elias crawled into the back. They switched places. At least they could play nice. That was one thing I had going for me.
