“What if my friends take out your hounds?” I asked, hands on my hips. Xander was an alpha, and in his wolf form, he was a force to be reckoned with. And I knew firsthand how dangerous Elias was.

David laughed. “You have a lot of faith in them,” he said.

“They mean the world to me. If they’re hurt, I will come after you,” I said.

David moved closer to me. “Sit. Work on your magic. You can’t do anything about the outside world right now.”

“I’m too distracted to find my magic,” I said.

“You’re going to be even more distracted when the queen comes after you for that stone,” he said.

“Tell me they won’t kill my friends.” I needed to hear it. I couldn’t concentrate at all knowing they were in danger.

“They won’t,” he said. “If anything, they’ll beat the shit out of each other and end up passed out until they heal.”

That didn’t make me feel better. “Why are you doing all this?”

“We’ve been through all that,” he said.

“No, you’re not telling me something, you’re hiding something. I can feel it.” I wasn’t sure how I could tell but it was clear now. There was a desperation surging through him. Something he needed that had nothing to do with his sister or the stone.

“What is it about you?” He moved closer to me. “Something about you keeps pulling me to you. I can’t hurt you. All I want to do is protect you. And be near you. Why you? What are you? What makes you call to me?”

He was so close to me, I could feel his warm breath as he spoke. My body was reacting to him, as if urging me to get closer. I leaned toward him on instinct. My mind told me to run but logic was quickly shut down. Everything felt a little fuzzy, as if I’d had a few drinks.

I felt intoxicated and alive.

David’s hands gripped my upper arms and I held my breath. His touch was electric. It felt as if little trails of lightning were rolling up my arms and down my back.

The last time I experienced anything similar was when I’d been with Elias. The memory sent a thrill through me. Any flicker of guilt was quickly swallowed by the heady feeling of lust.

“David,” my voice came out in a husky whisper. I hardly recognized it.

In an instant his mouth claimed mine, as if taking my use of his name as an invitation. I gasped, but didn’t fight it. My body tensed for a heartbeat, then melted into his. I kissed him back with a fierceness that caught me off guard.

I was hungry, desperate. He matched my intensity, his hands taking hold of each side of my face, then one hand moved to my lower back while the other tangled into my hair.

With each desperate movement of my mouth, wetness grew between my thighs. This was exactly what I wanted. Why had I fought it?

All reason was gone. The only thing I wanted or needed was David. I had to have him.

I was walking backward, lost in the kiss, not caring where he led us. A moment later, I was against a wall and David’s body was against me. I could feel his erection pressing into my hip. It sent a thrill through me, kicking up my lust to impossible levels. Wetness spread between my legs and I shoved my tongue into his mouth.

He responded by grabbing my arms and pinning them against the wall before breaking away from the kiss.

I was panting and my whole body felt like it was on fire. He locked his gaze on me, a wicked smirk on his lips. He’d never looked sexier and I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to see someone naked this bad in my whole life. Maybe it was the speed at which this all happened, or the fact that it felt so forbidden and so right all at once.

Tiny bursts of lightning traveled along his bare arms and I knew it continued under his clothes. I tried to lift my hands free of his grip so I could remove his shirt, but he held me fast.

“Not so fast,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this since the first time we met.”

I wish I could say I hadn’t felt the same. Since our first encounter, there was an attraction there. A need to be with him that I thought was driven by his magic. In my hazy lust filled state, I still wasn’t sure if he was using magic on me but I didn’t care. I just needed his cock inside me.

Slowly, David released my arms and I reached for his shirt. He shook his head. “Not yet.”

Perplexed, I dropped my hands. What was he waiting for?

When he dropped to his knees in front of me, I sucked in a breath. He quickly removed my pants, gently lifting each foot free before tossing them aside.
