“Where is she?” I asked.

“Upstairs.” David pointed.

I set my bag down on the floor and made my way up the stairs. Eventually, I’d have to face the fact that I had three mates who weren’t thrilled with sharing, but now wasn’t that time. If we survived, I’d deal with it then. Along with everything else. My list was getting longer by the moment.

“Shelly? Madison?” I glanced in a room with an open door. It had a large bed in the middle, surrounded by two bedside tables. The lamps on each were draped with sheer scarlet fabric, making the whole room glow a concerning red.

“Over here,” Shelly called.

I turned and saw her peeking out of another door. “Hey, Shelly. How’s Madison?”

Shelly opened the door wider and moved aside, sweeping her arm in an invitation.

I entered the room. Madison was sitting propped up on the bed with a book in her lap.

“I told the boys we had to wait for you to return before we started the questions. Gave her a little time to process,” Shelly whispered.

“How was the shifting?” Madison’s eye were bright and clear. She looked well rested and had more color in her cheeks than she had when I left.

“I did it.” I still got a little rush of joy thinking about it.

“Congrats,” Madison said.

I moved closer to her and sat on the edge of the bed. “I heard you got your memories back. You okay?”

She set the book down and swung her legs over the side of the bed. “I will be once we finish this.”

“Are you ready to talk about it?” Shelly asked.

Madison nodded. “Let’s gather the gang.”

I couldn’t help but smile. Madison seemed so determined. I stood and offered my hand to her. She took it and I helped pull her up.

When we entered the living room all three of my mates stood and waited like silent sentinels.

“Kitchen?” I offered. There wasn’t enough space for us to all sit in the small living area. I was surprised my mates had found seats as it was.

We silently filed into the kitchen-infirmary. Elias and David got to work moving chairs around the tiny table. With a few folding chairs, we had enough places to sit.

Finally, our odd group settled around the table. A pair of demons, an alpha wolf, a human, a mage, and me. There were mixed groups of supernatural friends and even relationships, but usually, aside from work, you saw groups of one kind together. We were doubly strange when you considered that the three males were all in a relationship with me.

“Tell us you know how to get in,” David said.

“You’re not going to like what I have to say,” Madison said.

“Start at the beginning,” Shelly said.

“The queen has been collecting people,” Madison said. “Me, your sister, other supernaturals, and humans.”

“What do you meancollecting?” I asked.

“I remember everything now.” She shook her head and looked down at her hands for a moment before looking back up. “I was sort of famous once.”

My brow furrowed, confused about where this was going but I waited.

“I was a championship MMA fighter. The bounty hunting thing was my side hustle between fights. I was working my way up, I had fans and everything. I was transitioning into entertainment when the vampire queen found me. I remember it clearly. I was out celebrating signing on with my first on screen role but when I got into my Uber, it didn’t take me home.”

“I’m so sorry,” I said.
