His eyes locked on mine and nodded. Then he shifted, returning to his human form quickly.
He returned to his abandoned clothes and quickly pulled on his jeans.
“Come back here,” Matteo called. He stepped forward, moving slowly.
“That’s our cue,” I said.
We ran and I didn’t look back. It was clear now, the queen had unlocked the stone’s magic and was using it. The bigger question was had she created more stones or was she limiting her magic to controlling shifters?
Had she gone after Johnny and Mateo because they were Xander’s friends or was she taking any shifter she could find? Was the rest of the pack safe? We’d assured them we had this under control.
Instead, we’d put them all in great danger.
We couldn’t wait. We had to put an end to this now.
As we sped down the road on Xander’s bike, I could feel the rage bubbling inside me. It wasn’t worth taking the safe plan. We were going to have to take some risks and try to stop this before it got any worse.
