“I’ll keep watch over them,” Clara said.

“I will, too,” Xander said.

I was surprised that he wanted to accompany David and Elias but neither

of them objected.

I took a deep breath. “Please be careful.”

“You’ve got about an hour before the magic wears off on its own. Get somewheresafe. They’ll regain consciousness with a raging headache and a whole lot of confusion.”

It served them right. It was probably too soft to leave them all here, but I wasn’t a

judge. That wasn’t my place.

“You all were supposed to stay at the house,” I said to Shelly. “I thought you wanted to be done with us the second it was over.”

She shrugged. “Maybe I got attached.”

“We didn’t have any better plans,” Sam said. “Figured we might as well help you try to save the world.”

“Where’s Heidi?” I asked.

“We sort of made her fall asleep and warded her in her apartment,” Becca said. “Your mate made his friends stay with her.”

“The twins?” I was surprised they’d agreed to miss out on a fight. I was also surprised David would ask them to protect a human.

“Yep,” Sam said. “When we took off, they kept to their orders to stay with her. They sure were loyal.”

“Thank you.” I’d already caused her enough damage. With any luck, she’d wake to us back in her apartment and not realize what she missed. Okay, that probably wasn’t going to happen and she was going to be pissed when she woke, but she was alive so I’d deal with it.

“Where did your mates go?” Madison asked.

“To finish it,” I said.
