Chapter Thirty-One

Skylar

Heidi’s apartment was still warded when we arrived. Shelly let us in, one at a time, insisting I go first.

I expected to walk in on a very pissed off Heidi. I expected her to scream and yell and then hug me till I couldn’t breathe. I figured we’d make up over pizza and cheap beer.

I didn’t expect to walk in on her naked on her couch with two demons. Two.

Heidi screamed and jumped behind one of the very well-endowed and very, very naked twins.

“Oh, my god, I’m so sorry!” I turned away, trying to give her some privacy.

The door glowed pink and Sam walked through. Heidi screamed again. Then Becca came in. Then Kate, then Ally, and finally Shelly.

“Well, this is awkward,” Shelly said. “Don’t most humans do that sort of thing in the bedroom?”

“Don’t most house guests just say thank you for your hospitality instead of making you fall asleep?” Heidi accused.

“You are most definitely not asleep,” Becca said.

“Did we win?” One of the twins asked.

“Where’s David?” The other asked.

“David went to destroy the stone,” I said. “And you three should go to the bedroom.”

I heard the rustle of their walking but kept my gaze away. I knew the hellhounds didn’t care. Most supernaturals didn’t care about nudity, but Heidi was human. And while she was an exceptional human, she likely didn’t want all of us staring at her boobs.

The mages filed in and Sam stopped in front of the couch. “Great, where are we going to sit now? Cause I am not sitting there.”

Becca threw a blanket at her. “I found this in the linen closet.”

Sam covered the couch and sat down. As if the blanket made it all better.

“Now what?” Kate asked.

“We wait,” Shelly said.

It was starting to feel like all we ever did was wait.

“So um, can we pretend that never happened?” Heidi was standing in the hallway. Now fully clothed in a tee and joggers. Her hair was in a messy bun and her cheeks were flushed. She looked like she’d just been for a run. Or she’d had a very good tumble. I hoped it was that. She deserved something good from this ordeal. Though, I had to question her taste in partners. Then again, demons were remarkable in the sack. Probably helped wipe her memory from that cheating asshole rock star.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I said.

“Though if there was something we were talking about, I just hope there was protection involved,” Sam said.

“Sam,” I hissed.

“Just saying.”

I rolled my eyes. So Sam was like that to everyone. Apparently, I wasn’t special just because I was her ex’s mate. In a way, that made me happy. We really were an odd little group.

“Pizza?” Kate asked.

“I’ll order something,” Shelly said.

“Shower?” Sam asked.
